Remember Walker Howard’s visit to Notre Dane?

yeah normally I'd say we're not including recruits in on this but Walker/Jamie are a different situation

USC said they pivoted to Riley when their attempt at Kelly fell through.
Looks like LSU was after Kelly the whole way, and when that became clear to USC, they nabbed Riley. USC got a great young coach, but I like what we're getting here in Brian Kelly.
Feel a bit bad for the ND fans/team, though, to be honest. They are a couple of reasonable scenarios away from a playoff chance. Tough time to lose a coach you never thought would ever leave.

Everyone would then know that the ONLY reason he left ND was b/c LSU paid him about 4x what he was currently making. I see no fault with him leaving ND for that reason…I just hope everyone realizes he didn’t leave ND b/c he was looking for a new challenge or wanted to compete in the SEC.
I’ve got a bridge to sell anyone who thinks Brian Kelly was only making 2-3 mil dollars at ND

I simply do not believe that at all.
I agree- To hire Brian Kelly from ND is not a back up plan.
I honestly didn't think the Brian Kelly hire was real when the smoke began if in fact Riley was the original target.

Yep. I know for a fact Jamie and Walker were extremely impressed with Kelly.
That visit was likely the final piece to putting the whole thing together.

Riley said he never spoke to any other school about its opening
To be fair, agents probably did the talking.

The contract details alone should tell you Kelly was locked in before the Riley, Tucker, Franklin deals were made public
Seems like hes an honorable man, and stuck to his word that he gave way back in Oct. SW knows this, respects it, and now wont spare a dime paying for anyone BK wants on staff

I tend to think you’re right. BK was his number 1 choice. Only thing I’m not sure of is BK taking the deal. I think it was hard for him to leave ND. Wasn’t a slam dunk and Woodward was probably a little on edge. In the end it worked out but it wasn’t a done deal until yesterday.
BK made up his mind a while ago, and it's obvious why.
At this point, he has done all he can do at ND, and ND has a ceiling that does not include a championship.
He wanted the chance to leverage LSU's talent to win championships before he retired.
So, there is not amount of facilities or money that ND could offer that would give him what he really wanted... championships.
Woodward offers equal or better pay, staff resources, elite facilities, and a program proven to be able to win championships (almost regardless of the HC).
This is a good deal for both parties.

Those comments were made a week or so ago in response to rumors that he may be in talks for the USC job, not LSU.
He also said:
“You know, it’s interesting,” he said. “Where your name is brought up is probably where they want you to look so you’re not looking where you should be looking. It’s a smokescreen. It’s that time of the year where you throw names out there so people don’t look where they are supposed to look.”
In hindsight, his comments were spot on. Brilliant response.

per their AD Kelly didn't even come to ND to match, this wasn't a pure money grab
Yeah that + his "low" salary means he's coming here to try to win titles, which is exciting. This is a football, not financial, move

Why is this even necessary?
Plus you don't want other schools interfering

What is with the Matt Campbell-USC stuff? Was he their choice before Kelly?

Yeah it's a good thing Northwestern is a zero on the ratings scale b/c I think they're the only school with more media clout than ND or Mich.
If you want a media united to blow up your shite, frick with the schools that are over-represented in sports media. They'll ensure you're dragged through mud and shite on the entire way. Hell they're doing it to LSU now just for hiring BK. Imagine if they had a week's head start.

Yea was slightly worried last night BK was gonna jimbo coast but I don’t think he is

Everyone would then know that the ONLY reason he left ND was b/c LSU paid him about 4x what he was currently making.
Getting woefully underpaid for years pisses people off enough that even if ND matched LSU's offer, he'd still leave.
If they offer to match, they are slapping him in the face by admitting they could have paid him fairly all along, but they didn't.
So, if you are Wanted by LSU, getting paid right by LSU, and have greater potential at LSU... why wouldn't you leave?
