Those comments were made a week or so ago in response to rumors that he may be in talks for the USC job, not LSU.
He also said:
“You know, it’s interesting,” he said. “Where your name is brought up is probably where they want you to look so you’re not looking where you should be looking. It’s a smokescreen. It’s that time of the year where you throw names out there so people don’t look where they are supposed to look.”
In hindsight, his comments were spot on. Brilliant response.

Why do you have to act like a child and keep rubbing it in?
Based on what happened today, it's quite possible that even SW thought he had an agreement with Riley not knowing that Riley was talking to USC.
