re: Derek Mason will be announced next week!

Majority of them just look at his age and the fact that he didnt win 10 games at Vandy (could Saban even do that?) to justify thinking he would be a poor hire. Everybody won't be Pelini, Mason is a recent SEC HC. Not some BS school like Youngstown State

His defense was ranked 12th+ in the sec in 5 of his 7 seasons

We knew it would be an African American hire as dc. So maybe he was the best available and O thought he could help with recruiting in Georgia and TN area.

Well we will see what kind of Head coach Ed is next year. Because this staff will be entirely his group! So he either sinks or swims. And nothing any fan will say will dictate who he hires. Hopefully he gets it right or he will be looking for another Job himself in the next year or two

Vandy wasn’t a program on the rise. They just happened to have a coach good enough to temporarily lift them above their level. There’s a reason every previous coach there since I’ve been alive except for one was fired. That was DiNardo, who went 5-6 twice and was the best coach they had up until Franklin. It’s a coaching graveyard because their administration doesn’t give a shite about big-time athletics.

We all have PTSD from the Pelini hire. Mason, while there are certainly differences from Pelini, has a very similar feel to the Pelini hire. Specifically a “name” coordinator that hasn’t successfully coordinated a defense in the last 5 years.

I have no idea if Mason will do well or not. If he’s the guy, I hope he does. As a fan all one can do is trust and hope that they’re selecting the right fit for our program.
