One of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen posted. What’s this have to do with his DC abilities?
Ummm... he lost the team. Coaches who lose teams can’t coach defenses(regardless of ability) because the team won’t want to play for them.
Also: 1 + 1 = 2
That also makes sense.

Great recruiter? What’s this based on?

Yeah and his success at Stanford as DC had nothing to do with the fact that his head coach’s offense was a clock eating machine with a ton of ground and pound. That won’t fly with LSU’s new offensive philosophy, just ask Aranda or Chavis when he went to A&M. At least Aranda eventually adapted towards the end of ‘19
That’s a very good point. Having acknowledged that I’d say any great DC is going to struggle some a few games a year in this era because even Saban’s defenses give up a lot of points against some of the more high octane offenses. Everyone keeps talking 3-4 or 4-3 or 4-2-5. It seems to me the coach that can adapt to the players we have, coach to their strengths, have the ability to change the defensive coverages we are in at a moments notice are the coaches that will have better success. The days of being married to one defensive scheme are over. Play a base defense and make adjustments when you’re getting exposed. I think Derek Mason is sharp enough to evolve to whatever works during the game in and of itself. Having better talent helps too.

Oh boy. Another retread, surely that’ll do it.

Wasn’t that after he was fired?

The baseball program and the basketball programs are nothing at all to scoff about.
True, but those programs are also a lot cheaper to run. Baseball is the only one they have really put any money into.
