So we'd be switching back to 3-4? That's what Mason runs and the reason Ika left.

Would be a terrible hire and probably get CEO fired.

I wouldn’t be upset either but I definitely feel like it’s a huge gamble. No one has ever seen him perform well period, and that’s an issue.

Mason’s best defenses ever have been relatively shitty, but better than his talent level, which is concerning and doesn’t usually extrapolate to having a better-than-your-talent-level defense with elite players. It’s way more likely that he has mediocre defenses at LSU and gets O fired next year

So we are going to go after a guy who hasn't fielded a decent defense since 2013? I understand the difference between LSU and Vandy. But what evidence do we have that he can still put together a defense to stop SEC offenses

We will get downvoted into oblivion by posters who dont know shite, but ill trust the multiple power five teams courting the man right now.

he was one of the coaches on the ESPN film room for the Ohio State and Oregon NCG and I liked him a lot, hes a smart man, I could see players liking him.

Vandys defense was one of the two defensive’s worse than LSUs this year. Defense was the problem

I think it's going to be him personally. Now will it be? I don't know. But he's in the top 3 right now that we're looking at.

Yep I don’t think it’s a good idea to Hire him. The offensive game has changed since he was last dc

Actually it might be the best hire to save O's job. I have noted in other threads that what appears to be going on is that Woody and the TAF money folks are not giving O carte blanche decision making with respect to how much to pay a DC. He had the chance when he replaced Aranda and Brady with Bo and Linehan. LSU is on the hook for almost $6 million.

I have this feeling that Woody is not going to get strapped with another Bo Pellini DC contract. Period. Thus, you hire Mason, who was a darn good DC at Stanford from 2011 to 2013. Forget Vandy, the AD he worked under did nothing to support Football. The other SEC schools need to sit down and tell the Vandy President you all need to take some of the SEC money that football is putting in your budget and support the darn program.

Mason might be the best hire given the constraints O is under. While I have gone on record saying off field issues should not be grounds for fire, on the other hand, O's off the field decisions probably cost him some "Goodwill and capital" he had earned with Woody and TAF Money Men and his last 2 hires, which are costing LSU a sh...t load of money and with COVID-19 Revenue shortfalls due related to Tickets, concessions, parking, merchandise sales (estimated $80 million) and the estimated $8 Million LSU is not going to get do to the Bowl ban, Coach O in my view does not have the ability to go out and make a splash hire like Freeman from Cincinnati, which would require another Bo Pellini type contract.

If things go South next year, LSU would be strapped with 2 Bo Pellini contracts and then on the market to have hire a new DC with another Bo Pellini contract.

I don't see that happening.

Being a dc in 2013 is not the same as today. We need someone that has been a dc and been one this past year.

Plus mason shouldn’t be considered due to his fuller pr stunt

In understand you feel that way, I have been on the Coach Freeman Bandwagon. However, as the Rolling Stones long ago sung, you can't always get what you want. I think Woody and TAF money folks are not going to agree to another Bo Pelini type contract.

I don't see O being allowed to have the budget to make another hire like earlier this year when he replaced Aranda. I think that shipped sailed.

If it turns out my conjecture is wrong, well then I will admit I was wrong.
