O will be fired by the end of the season if this is his hire.

No. Managing a team and managing a defense are entirely different. He would be lights out with our talent.

I have no problem with this. I think Mason is a solid guy and a solid coach. Defense wasn’t the problem at Vandy, talent was. Mason always fielded competitive teams with subpar talent.

We will get downvoted into oblivion by posters who dont know shite, but ill trust the multiple power five teams courting the man right now.

I don’t think we have a lot to go off to make that statement. Yes there was some prior success at Stanford but that’s been quite a while. Bo was once considered a great DC too,

Couldn’t care less about this

solid coach

Don’t need solid, need phenomenal. Maybe Mason would work out under Saban but O needs an elite, elite guy who can do it on his own

ETA: 91, 61, 89, 35, 22, 107- for the morons who disagree, those have been his defensive scoring rankings over the last 6 years. You can argue all you want that Mason would somehow magically become elite because he had 2 years of not-awful defense at Vanderbilt, but you’re wrong. His defenses haven’t been good and he would be a huge miss without an elite defensive coach to get him up to speed on modern offenses

Thinking like somebody who thinks stats from 2012 matter.

It’s a different game.

The multiple power 5 teams that fired their coaches because they were bad? That’s who you want to trust?

This would be a terrible hire but at least O would get canned at the end of the year.

I agree with this. I wouldn’t be upset with Mason, but you’re right.

Is it too much to ask to seek someone who’s primary responsibility was calling a defense at some point In The past 5 years?

Please show me evidence from his defenses at Vandy that this would in any way be a solid hire

I see your point. But Bo had been a decade removed from competitive football. Mason knows the SEC in depth.

Preliminary doesn’t mean much, other than LSU is being thorough in their search.

If you cant see the difference between Vandy and LSU I cant help you.

Mason isnt my first choice but hes worth an interview.
