So he's leaving. If he was staying then announcing it wouldn't make the players and coaches lose focus.

reading between the lines, I think Lane fully expected Ole Miss to say "hit the road" today, hence the optimism from the LSU side...then Ole Miss told him to stay another week, which was not expected...so now there is a chance he has a change of heart?
