Can we all agree now that Woodward and LSU were caught off guard with Riley going to USC?

If we're making this late of a push for Brian Kelly, with no real confirmation as to whether this will happen or whether he's even interested, I think it's pretty telling as to where we are right now.
Riley was the guy, we thought we had him, and we missed.
At this point, I hope we get him. We need a coach, and Kelly is a brand name in college football.
If we get turned down here we'll be going into the middle of the week with no coach and no real headway with anyone.

I don’t follow
If Brian Kelly is the hire, it’s clear BK was the target all along and we never offered Riley.
BK is a much more accomplished coach than Riley, it’s not even debatable really.

Baring an incredible hire of a coach currently in the mix for a championship we 100% got fricked by Riley. Seems the whole CFB world was in on it but us. Kelly is most definitely a fallback.

Possibly, but I don't think that Woodward didn't do his job. He's had contingencies lined up. He isn't just trying to contact Brian Kelly out of the blue. That's not how the baseball hire happened, I'm sure it's not how the football hire is going.
