One of the biggest benefits to bowl eligibility is the extra practice. No school, no distractions, just football.

New coach can learn the personnel, begin to apply talent to his system, etc. Three weeks is a ton of time in NCAAF.

Maybe you should tell that to the seniors who came back this year because they wanted a shot to play for a shot t a nationaltittle. Miles lost the right to wait w by making the decision he made.

First of all, I am sympathetic toward the seniors for their experience this year...but make no mistake that a title should not have been the only reason to return for your senior season. Second, these seniors are part of the blame, be it in a small way; the lack of leadership is a tough blame on the coaches. Who stepped up as a true leader? Who carried on the leadership established by the departing Flynn, Doucet, Dorsey, Steltz, Highsmith, Jackson, Zenon? Dickson has tried. Who else? Did the coaches make them quit during the last few games?

Miles has not relinquished his right to make or to wait as a result of the outcome of THIS decision. He has simply used his mulligan he EARNED for winning the NC.

I'm not happy with the outcome either, nor is he based on his comments after the ARK game.

Give his the benefit...we have no clue what is going on privately or behind the LSU doors...but I truly believe HE does.

I love Dandy, but he also claimed during the season that Miles was very happy with the Co-DC's and they were not going anywhere.

The truth of the matter is that nobody has anyone clue what's going on except the man running the show. And that's the way it should be.

Good points.

I guess I believe that Miles made a bad decision in thinking the system from last year (even under Pelini) was working. We got smoked in a lot of games and had to outscore teams.

It was not a situation to just keep the system going.

shite, now Sports2 is agreeing. Probably no change until after the bowl

Wow. Will there be any good candidates around by that point? Can Les actually bring in a quality DC?

That just means all the good dc's will be taken if he waits till after the bowl game.

Unless he has already made some sort of verbal aggreement with someone. Not to long ago, certain posters were saying that Les had already chosen who the DC was gonna be.

Waiting to name a DC until after the bowl is not a big deal.

Waiting to find a DC until after the bowl is inexcusable.

The one thing that Buddy insinuated that was very concerning was that his source said that Miles didn't think changes were necessary.

True, I was stirring the pot a bit.

That would be very disappointing. The supposed inside sources cited here and elsewhere say LM is definitely hiring a DC.

That is very troubling if true. Also goes against what others are saying is happening. The meltdown will be truly epic.

There's the rub ... there's the cause of ranter's concern. I agree, if it were definite Miles' was going to demote/fire/replace Peveto, Mallory, Malleto, then I don't care if it's not til after the bowl game, although, I think it would help recruiting to get the new guy in now, why let lame ducks recruit?

I have heard all the so-called "in the know" people on here, going back to Dec. 2004 ("Saban is NOT going to leave LSU, book it!") through many other situations. So when I hear, "Miles is definitely making changes at DC," it could very well be that he demotes Peveto and/or lets him be hired off to Northwestern, and "promotes" Mallory to sole DC.

I think the least Les should do now is make some sort of statement indicating that is not the case. Why? Not to appease Rantards, no ... but to assure recruits that the defensive coaching fiasco of the past year WILL be fixed.

Is the new ranter theory on the DC hire/non-hire? If so, this board may need to be blown up and started anew.

Guys...read up on Greg Hudson.

Young, but would definitely fit what we need
in style and ability

He is doing a lot with little and his team just stopped the no 2 PASSING Offense in the country.

well, just blow off the fact that a few of the major candidates for the job are available immediately there, lester ... i can't believe miles is going to blow off a potential 15-day jump start for a new DC .. then he hits the ground running next spring, not to mention what it does immediately for recruiting ... miles can't be this dumb ..

if Miles doesn't realize there is a problem. Then, let him keep the co-dcs and die with them. He'll be gone after next year. If he is truly that stupid, then that is the best thing long term for LSU.

But, I don't think he is. I think he'll make a change and that he likely already has a deal with that guy. I remember everyone freakin' out when we didn't have an OC a few days after Jimbo left.

There were rumors of OLine and WR coaches being promoted and then we landed Crowton. I'm thinking that the same thing will happen with the DC job. If not, let Les sink his own ship.

The fact is, neither Les Miles nor LSU has announced that the football team will be replacing the Defensive Coordinators. No notice has been given that the position is available.

The main statements concerning the defense is that "We are going to fix that...before the bowl game."

Other statements, during the season, have been "except for a few plays here and there, the defense played good enough for us to win."

The only outrage is coming from the fans (including me).

This is why there is so much frustration...no just because Les Miles has not hired a new coach, but that Les Miles has barely admitted, if at all, that there is a, except for a few plays here and there, major problem with the defense.

This isn't even a public relations nightmare because LSU is not conducting any public relations as it concerns the football team's defensive woes.

And fortunately there is a place to vent our concerns...right here at TD.com.
