Young, great recruiter, knows Louisiana, been at LSU before, transformed Mizzou defense and complimented it with that good offense… seems like a perfect fit on paper.

I notice they were careful saying “target”
. Anybody have ideas about the cash involved it would take to get him here?
Posted on 1/3/24 at 6:48 pm to Captain Crown
Very good point, Ill correct that in the OP haha. He could be a leading target but we may not even pull it off… good catch Captain.

In fairness we did that to allot teams
Posted on 1/3/24 at 6:56 pm to TigerFanFromBama
Ok well 4 teams put up 37 points or more against the 19 team and that defense was 10x the team this one was.

Update: Mizzou trying hard to retain Baker. Baker’s wife is from BR area and may be deciding factor though.
Posted on 1/3/24 at 7:22 pm to 7Tiger7
What could they do to retain? They just gave him a new contract
Posted on 1/3/24 at 7:29 pm to Wabbit7
Try to convince him in terms of roster, continuity, etc. There can also be amendments in his contract such as greater car allowance, house mortgage, other benefits. That might all be great on paper, but if his heart wants to go to LSU AND wife is an LSU alum I believe, hard to match what LSU offers.

I know people are going to talk about this hire as if new and breaking news is coming out every day, but BK already has his guy right?

Baker:
From Houston - lot of LA/LSU influence
Played college ball at Tulane
Coached 5 years at LA Tech (with Sloan)
Former LSU LB coach
Wife from LA, LSU alum
He certainly has a good gig at Mizzou, but Baton Rouge is calling'.

Baker crested the seven-figure mark in his deal at Missouri, with a pact per public records that was set to pay Baker $1.1 million and increase by at least $100,000 per year through 2025.
$1.1 million? He would get almost double that here

The buyout would be the issue I see.

If that is LSU’s target, the buyout won’t be a problem
People “in the know” were saying House’s buyout was a problem and LSU fired him, and three others with zero regard of the cost
Posted on 1/3/24 at 7:53 pm to redfish99
My sentiments exactly. I’m not impressed with this possibility. It’s a diversion I think.

Do you actually know that there was zero regard to cost or are you just guessing? I find it hard to believe that there weren’t some people that were very pissed off when Woodward came asking for $5.5 million and more money to hire new coaches.

Doesn’t mean that it ain’t happening!

You think Woodward went around asking donors for money to fire House?
Woodward was likely on the receiving end of several phone calls from people that treat $5.5M as rounding errors telling him that House is gone or checks will stop coming.

Yes. He likely has a select group of people that he has to go convince to give him money for every major decision he makes.

If LSU had that many people that are throwing $5.5 million around with no care in the world, they wouldn’t have so much trouble raising money to fix the PMAC or upgrade Alex Box.

LSU doesn’t write a check tomorrow for 5.5 mil… at least in House’s case (which is the bulk of the buyout), I believe it’s paid out over 2-3 years
Not to mention all of it gets offset by their new salaries at their new jobs, unless they remain unemployed…. Which they won’t. They’ll all get decent-paying jobs somewhere.
$5.5 mil is nothing. LSU probably won’t actually spend more than $3mil to buyout the fired defensive coaches when all is said and done, if that. Probably closer to $1-2mil spent, which is peanuts for an SEC program.
