We’ll see the kind of pull Baker’s wife has-LOL
My wife and all her friends are from Mandeville. If she’s anything like them, the U-Haul’s been booked.

People complained about that defense all season long. Vandy put up 38. Ol miss 37. Bama put up 41. Texas 38. Florida 28. Arkansas 20. People say Jayden would have went undefeated with Burrow’s defense but that defense wasn’t as great as some seem to remember. They did have some good games but more bad ones than good.
Some of those were bad QB’s, of course, but 2019 LSU also faced Sam Ehlinger, Jordan Love, Bo Nix, Tua, TLaw, Jalen Hurts, Jake Fromm, Kellen Mond, and Kyle Trask. Hard to be a top 1 0 defense when you’ve played two top 5 QB’s, a Super Bowl QB, another first rounder, 3 mid rounders, and freshman future first/second rounder.

The 2019 defense wasn’t terrible. It was big plays that killed them. But for the most part, that defense was pretty good from down to down. Texas made two big plays which made that game closer than it should have been. Plus it was the first game of the season in Austin Texas. I don’t remember them driving up and down the field consistently on us. They would throw it up and we played the ball, missed a tackle and the WR scored. The other play was that big Hback who was fast as hell on the slant where he got behind our safety and that was it. I’m not taking that away, they made the play, but they weren’t driving down the field on us regularly. Bama also had a lot of difficulty driving. After Ole Miss, the defense shut down Arkansas and A&M. They continued that in the SEC championship and playoffs. It just came together at the end.
The Florida game was different, they did drive down the field on us the whole game. The Bama game again had a big play on STs and two huge passes that made that game closer than it should have been. The game against Ole Miss was dominated defensively in the first quarter and a half. The score was 37-7 at one point and we stopped them on consecutive drives until they found that QB counter play we couldn’t recognize or stop.

You look at the current set of information, which is different than what he had 2 years ago, and make a decision from there on who to pursue.
It seems like bringing Baker and Raymond back in after he showed both the door just 2 years ago would be a huge hit to Kelly's reputation and an admittance of colossal failure on his part. Will he really do that?

I was listening to the Marcelo interview with Jordy this morning and he said that Baker signed his extension but it hasn’t been approved yet by the board of supervisors. Is this the same as Denbrock?

Woodward loves the sleight of hand so I guess we'll see when we see.

I'm not saying the coaches have to be from LA. But look at this years staff. Almost every offensive coach (sans Denbrock) had a tie to LA in some capacity. Not one of the D coaches had any ties.

No-Denbrock did not sign his extension

Ok man, I see what you are doing here but putting Bo Nix on that list is just disingenuous. Yeah he had a good year at Oregon this year but he was freaking awful at Auburn.

Well I hate to say it but Bo Nix made the LSU defense his bitch two years in a row unfortunately. So you can’t hound him too hard.

Did he?
15/35 157 4.5 1 1 56.6
Hmm.., I guess we have a difference of opinion on what consists of “making someone your bitch” because those stats….. are not impressive at all to me.

Here we go again with you dumbasses and your idiotic bullshite: “Derp! Dat 2019 defense wuz bad! Dey giv up all dem pernts!”
Most all of those points were garbage time points when games had been decided. Funny how you bullshite artists never mention that, when it counted, Dave Aranda’s 2019 defense shut down Georgia, Oklahoma, and Clemson in a row, huh?
Now shut the frick up. By any measure, Aranda’s defense in 2019–in this era when offenses no longer line up in an I formation—was a great one.

I find it hard to believe that there weren’t some people that were very pissed off when Woodward came asking for $5.5 million and more money to hire new coaches.
I’d have a harder time believing the football program wasn’t under immense pressure by the majority of people who pay for these things to do exactly what Kelly did.

I don't know exactly what those Bo Nix stats are, hard to tell. But I do know he pulled a few plays out of his arse to beat us that one year.

We had the #1 total offense in FBS. #1!
With a Heisman QB, a generational WR, great OL play (especially in that game), etc.

He has been a mixed bag at Mizzou. First half of 2022 season, our D was stellar. Second half of the season the SEC had enough film on him the D went to shite.
This year the D was not good to start the year. No way around it. It got better as the year went on but still had a piss poor performance vs Florida and a mediocre day vs UGA. There were good performances vs South Carolina, Tenn and Arkansas. By far the best performance all year was against tOSU but a lot of that might have been because their OL was dogshit.
Overall, if i had to guess i'd say Baker is probably a top 20-30 DC nationally right now. The question is whether he is going to adjust to everyone having more data on him now and improve? If not, he'll start falling pretty fast. Personally I dont think he is worth backing up the brinks truck for at this point. He needs more experience and proven record.
This a quote from a Mizzou fan on the SEC rant when I asked their thoughts on Baker as a DC and it sort of confirms my thoughts.
Yes, Baker was a great LB coach for us in 2021 but he has never had much success as a DC. He was fired from Miami and has been up and down at Mizzou.
He would definitely be an upgrade from House but he seems more like a Pete Golding hire than a Dave Aranda hire. He's a good recruiter and players love him but his defenses just aren't dominant from week to week.
If we get him, I will be happy cuz its better than House but I'd much rather a hire like the guy from NC State that has actually fielded good/great defenses before.

He wasn’t great, but he was 2-1 against LSU. Always makes me laugh when specifically LSU fans claim he ran from the SEC, because he owned us for 2 years before leaving.

I literally broke down multiple games. There is absolutely ZERO garbage time in one score games. Choose to remember how you want. I don’t have to resort to name calling but know that you’re wrong.
