It's odd for the HC not to have veto power over recruiting decisions on either side of the ball.

I'd be more concerned if Gus was telling Will, or whoever is the DC that you have to take this kid in the recruiting cycle for your defense. I'm just guessing but I think Gus' experience of defense is more how to exploit it, less to build it.

Muschamp has not chosen a school yet because he is waiting for another domino to fall. He wants to be a DC in the Big 10. There just may be a SEC coach taking over a program in desperate need of a turnaround.

What has Malzahn done to show he gives a frick what happens on the the defensive side?
Fire Ellis Johnson before his second season was even over after his defense continued to get worse?

That was easy.

It's not a question about veto over talent related issues. It's about veto power over character related issues. In the end the HC is held responsible for the actions of the members of the team, not the coordinators.

Damn, I can't believe how desperate some of the LSU fans are to have Les exit stage left.

Ellis basically had the same power, but word is Gus had to step in after the LSU game this year due to conflict.

So after AU only gave up 7 and won by 34, Gus felt the need to step in?

Yes. Whitehead got into it with the DB coach, and was suspended for five games. Ellis said he was "fired" from the D. Gus shut that down.

Right? So Gus stepped in while Auburn was actually playing defense, and they went on to shite the bed the rest of the year. Great coaching job

By all reports they are very close and I remember Jimbo saying Will was there for him when his kid got sick.

It's cute how the Bama fans are looking out for Auburn in this thread.

Y'all act like it's going to be in the contract or something. That's not going to be the case. It will just be an understanding between Gus and Muschamp that he won't be meddling in the defense and Muschamp will be able to do what he likes.

We won't have to worry AU won't get the Muschamp.
