An different perspective on the O front

I'm finding myself curious about the demographics of those who are Coach O supporters. I had a discussion with my Dad, who is also an LSU grad, in his mid-50s. He argument is that Coach O has made him enjoy being in the stadium more than he's enjoyed it in 20 years. Even during Miles hay-day.
When I point out O's short comings and reveal the true nature behind the teams offensive "explosions" (terrible defenses) his response is to "just give O a chance" and see what happens.
So it got me thinking, is it mostly the older generation that want to keep Coach O? The ones who lived through the dark days of LSU football? Are they more willing to accept mediocrity from the program?
So, if you're a coach o support, how old are you? Did you go to LSU? Are you from WAAAAAAY down the Bayou like he is?

Almost agree with this sentiment, but I think if you don't pull the trigger on a Fisher or Herman hire now, that window closes, and you really can't pass that up.

Those are very clear examples of people wanting to go with the emotional hire. It's a cut and dry situation. You don't go with the emotional hire unless there's reason to believe he's the best choice for the future of the program. And "giving him a shot" or saying "he'll be fine" does not mean he's the best choice for the future.

This sounds like a terrible line of thinking for the long term future of the program.
And remind your dad that we had the same offensive explosions when we started 7-0 last year and Fournette was leaving all those cupcakes in the dust. Some of our old timers completely forget about that.
It's not the coach, it's the teams he's had to play. And when he finally plays a good team he doesn't even score a field goal.

To the OP, remind your dad of this - 0 points and 125 yards with two weeks to prepare. The boosters remember those lines very well I assure you.

if he enjoyed those few games more than the rise from the ashes of Hallman to national super power, he can't be helped.

It's older and casual fans that are so pro O.
It's the type who get wound up in emotional movements (I won't get political, but there is a type). O says what they want to hear and they buy in hook line and sinker.
I like O. I think he's better than Miles in a lot of ways, but in many ways is still the same.
The biggest issue to me with O is the coordinators. He's always going to need two great coordinators.
O is a Cajun Mack Brown. That's all there is to it. Aranda is the "talent" of this staff.
It's the type who get wound up in emotional movements (I won't get political, but there is a type). O says what they want to hear and they buy in hook line and sinker.

I'm so glad to have Miles gone. I always thought he was holding the talent back. QB situation under him was stressful.
Herman was my choice, but It is hard to ignore what Coach O has done ( The kids enjoy the game more).
If we could find out what he wants to do with the Offense that would help.
Herman was my choice for the Offense. Would hate to lose coaches with the change. That's the unknown.

he has a "plan"
problem is, he can't hire an OC until he is actually hired as the HC.
so what happens if we name him HC, and then his "plan" for OC falls through and doesn't happen?

The boosters remember he had been on the job for 4 games and had a TE's coach, who had also been on the job 4 games, running the offense.
They know there is no coach in the country that could be on the job 4 weeks with a TE's coach running the offense that could beat Alabama in week 11 of the season.

I'm about your age; graduated from LSU; and have season tickets.
I'm divided on Coach O. If he wins out in dominating fashion, then I feel like the guy earned the job. But then I'm reminded of the last time LSU hired from within (Archer) rather than going out and hiring the best possible coach available (Spurrier).

I'm 44, know Coach O on a somewhat personal level, and really do not want him to get the job unless we have 3-4 no's thrown at us....which in that case makes you think what the hell were we doing all this time when we fired miles in September?
