Former NFL offensive lineman Michael Oher, which the movie "The Blind Side" was based on, filed a lawsuit in court Monday alleging that Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy tricked him into signing a document that made them his conservators. On Tuesday, the Tuohy family to fire back at his accusations...
quote:

“I sat Michael down and told him, ‘If you’re planning to go to Ole Miss — or even considering Ole Miss — we think you have to be part of the family. This would do that legally,'” Tuohy said. "We contacted lawyers who had told us that we couldn’t adopt over the age of 18; the only thing we could do was to have a conservatorship. We were so concerned it was on the up-and-up that we made sure the biological mother came to court.”
...
"We're devastated," he said. "It's upsetting to think we would make money off any of our children. But we're going to love Michael at 37 just like we loved him at 16."

I look at it this. They could have left him on the street and he would be on drugs or in jail.

So glad Oher didn't go to LSU. We don't need this stink on us. It is a very unfortunate story. It appears everyone benefited. The book details the wealth of the Touhy family prior to knowing him. Regardless if the kid had ability or not, his living situation was shite, and they gave him every advantage to succeed. These people didn't need to do a thing. They felt compelled to help someone in need. Coming back at the family after all this time and all his success makes him look petty and ungrateful.

He needs to be tried for blackmail

They didnt adopt a kid from the wrong side of the tracks and let him inherit 25 taco bells. That stuff only happens in the movies.

Where would Michael Oher be today if it wasn't for the Tuohys?

He would definitely played in the NFL. It was all ready a rising lineman before white god and his wife

Don't let a feel good movie fool you! Oher was already one of the top offensive lineman in the country and being heavily recruited long before the Tuolys entered the picture. He was going to the league with or without them. Downvote all you want, it won't change the facts!

What's odd, is, in Alabama you CAN adopt after 18. I wonder why Mississippi is different.

IDK but I think adopting after 18 prolly came about after your kids can stay on your insurance until you retire. It's prolly bankster/commie driven...the need for gov to spend money or the system collapses.

I want to watch Michael Oher's version of The Blind Side where he gets to slap Mrs. Tuohy's cheeks after committing to Ole Miss.

1) Why did he need to be a part of the family to go to Ole Miss?

2) Why did their attorneys say adult adoption was off the table when it is a legal option? One of those attorneys was later appointed his agent.

3) Was the biological mom educated enough to make a reasonable decision for Oher, or was she just a prop?

4) How was the conservatorship still a thing till this day? Is that common?

I'm going to say they thought he needed to be part of the family because they were alums and were giving him stuff and it would've been an NCAA violation otherwise.

How has no one mentioned yet the fact that the Tuohys were wildly rich before knowing Michael Oher existed. Rich like making $7.5m off a movie like someone below mentioned wouldn’t have changed their lives.

Wonder if he was gonna end up in the will just as much as the other kids. (lol)

If I had to guess, he's blown all his NFL money and is hoping he get some money from this shakedown.

This story mirrors my life situation without the NFL of a black friend we took in. No father, mother was murdered at 15. All 3 brothers in prison. We gave him his first christmas. He lived with us. My dad paid his moms bills. We helped community round up and pay for a lot of his university education. His childhood was so rough that he's become schizo and thinks we're evil people. Just ungratefulness. Has engineering technology degree but working at a Lowe's. I sometimes think it'd be better to have let him go his own route instead of intervening at 10 yr old.

That’s an unfortunate story as well as his now, but in most cases doing this not only helps the kid, the family usually grows tremendously and learn quite a bit about life and it works out.

Phil Collins' daughter is Emily In Paris, a-hole. You'd know that if you spent time with your wife and kids.

Why do I think lawyers are playing a much bigger part in this than we're reading about?

You can adopt anyone at any age, in any state. It is actually quite common. People adopt adults as their children for inheritance purposes.
