Don’t expect to see Kirk Herbstreit arguing on “First Take” anytime soon. The longtime ESPN college football analyst made it clear that he's not going to participate shows in like that...
quote:

“I think it started with Skip Bayless and Stephen A. because they kind of had a thing with them way back, way back at ESPN, where they would just kind of ‘Let’s argue to argue’ kind of thing,” Herbstreit said on The Inner Circle Podcast this week. “And it works for them, but I think other shows copied it and it just has become — I have to turn it off because it makes me get really frustrated as a sports fan and as somebody in the industry.”

“I watch some of these shows on various networks, especially the NFL shows, and it drives me crazy where our industry has gone,” Herbstreit said. “And politics are obviously this way, too, but it’s a lot of clickbait. It’s a lot of like really loud comments that will maybe go viral. ‘I might not believe in it, but it’s gonna go viral, and people are going to know who I am.’ Man, I will quit before I ever do that. Like, if that’s what it takes to make it, I would never do this.”

Herbstreit believes “GameDay” is different.

“On GameDay, we don’t do that. Again, Pat [McAfee’s] crazy and fun, but we make it about the players, we make it about the coaches, and we make it about the storylines. We really don’t make it about us,” Herbstreit said. “And the reason I’ll tell y’all that is if it ever changed, I would be so fast gone out of studio television. But I’m lucky. I kind of live on an island where we’re allowed to still talk ball and still just have fun talking about ball.”

I agree with Kurt. I’m especially disappointed when sports analysts cry on TV about racism may or may not exist.

Get the frick over it. People make mistakes. Kirk is by all accounts a great person, and he’s also great at his job.
It seems like many of y’all need support animals for how emotional Kirk Herbstreit makes you.

You seem to be the one that needs emotional support because someone criticized your boy. The only irrationally emotional response has come from you — TWICE - in the same thread.

good for him, and he has the juice to make the demand. ESPN cuts him loose, he will have a job offer before the night is over. He's not my fav, but he is good at what he does, cries, and pushes the human element angle, with his dog/dogs

He cried on TV for the stupidest thing years ago, but then says it’s not about him ??

And you’re still crying about a stupid thing that someone did “years ago”.

I get tired of the arguing for arguing sake, so thank you Kirk. Now if you could explain that to my six year-old.

He is not wrong. He is a good commentator but, like many viewers, I lost respect with the waterworks.

Herbstreit's right but he's about to get fired from ESPN if he isn't careful.

Yep, don't think you too big to get fired. Younger people won't remember just how big Brent Musberger was at CBS / NFL Today years ago. If he can get pushed out anyone can.

Gameday is not different Kirk. Same network just a different circus.
