LSU's search for a new defensive coordinator could be coming to an end as Minnesota Vikings defensive back coach Daronte Jones is expected to take the job on Ed Orgeron's staff, according to Bruce Feldman.

Jones has spent the last five seasons in the NFL coaching defensive backs with the Vikings, the Cincinnati Bengals, and the Miami Dolphins.

Before his time in the NFL, the Capital Heights, Maryland native served as defensive backs coach at the University of Wisconsin in 2015 where he worked under Dave Aranda and was the secondary coach at the University of Hawaii from 2012-14.

Jones, 41, has some ties to Louisiana as he coached safeties at Nicholls State in 2002 and was the defensive coordinator at two High Schools in the state — Jeanerette (2004) and Franklin (2003).

The Rant loved the Pelini hire. If they hate this hire I’m feeling good.

Speak for yourself. This is bad. Bad as Pelini.

The reason negative shite happens to LSU is because of negative arse people. You don't know how this will turn out, hopefully for the good.

So the defense sucked because the fans were negative? Yeah. Ok.

LouisianaLonghorn, you read the posting and you come back with that asinine statement. Clearly the post went over your head. I will come down to your level so that you will understand. to The defense was trash because of the Defensive Coordinator that got released. The negative (arse) arse people such as yourself that don't have a clue of this guys capability or is it you just a negative person. Just as no name Joe Brady came in and the offense was elite, just as this no name guy could very well do the same for the defense. I'm sure you have heard and aware of the term choose your battles.

stop with all the negativity. For God sakes give the guy a chance. Let him actually coordinate a few games next year and then we can have a discussion on the success or not of the hire. I think he will be just fine.

So we can fire him after one season and owe him a shite ton of money like we did with Pelini? If this guy is truly the best that LSU can do, then we are in big trouble.

Let's see how he does. Geaux Tigers

Not that anyone cares, but I can’t even finish anyone’s post that contains something about lack of experience. Joe Brady in 2019 should be enough of an example to at least give the guy the chance to fail or succeed. Joe spent 2 seasons with Sean Peyton and made a huge difference. Everyone seemed cool with the new OC just bc he spent some time with Brady. The fact that he was with Aranda for a year to go along with his other stops is enough experience to get a shot in my opinion. Good luck coach.

When you have to rely on the extreme outlier (Brady) to support your argument, you know you're grasping for straws.

I think Orgeron realizes his future is determined by the OC/DC hires this year. I can bet he was thoroughly vetted by the staff before the offer. We’ll see if the gamble of getting a lesser known candidate pays off. O will sink or swim so we’ll see. Geaux tigers.

It's laughable at this point. The icing on the cake is when salary details come out and we find out LSU is paying this unproven coach $1.5 - $2 million a year. This coaching search has been a complete clusterfrick and it's mostly on Coach O. We're witnessing the fall of O with this hire.

Loads of experience? Highly recommended by whom? It’s a piss poor hire that’s what it is.

Lol really? His experience is having many jobs. Hardly awe inspiring.

So much negativity here it is not worth a different perspective. You people must have miserable lives and didn't play football beyond HS (if even HS). GEAUX Coach Jones - A warm welcome to LSU!

His one stint as a defensive coordinator, you know, the job he's being hired for, was at Bowie St. Yes, you read that correctly. His last 5 years have been coaching DBs with the Vikings, Bengals and Dolphins. Can anyone name one pro bowl DB from any of those teams during that timespan? I'll wait. His resume is less than impressive, but similar to the Pelini hire last year, the sunshine pumpers will blast anyone who questions it. Such is life, as an LSU fan.

I want it to work because I'm a huge LSU fan and want to win but I have my doubts. I would also add that we have one of the best dB coaches in college football so what skill set does he bring. With on the field coaches being limited who coaches safties lbs and dline?

I don't like the hire. And, he very well may suck. But your "why" argument is terrible.

I guess you're calling me a "sunshine pumper" so "Up Yours". The reason that sunshine is uncomfortable is because it's not what's usually pumped into you...
