LSU's search for a new defensive coordinator could be coming to an end as Minnesota Vikings defensive back coach Daronte Jones is expected to take the job on Ed Orgeron's staff, according to Bruce Feldman.

Jones has spent the last five seasons in the NFL coaching defensive backs with the Vikings, the Cincinnati Bengals, and the Miami Dolphins.

Before his time in the NFL, the Capital Heights, Maryland native served as defensive backs coach at the University of Wisconsin in 2015 where he worked under Dave Aranda and was the secondary coach at the University of Hawaii from 2012-14.

Jones, 41, has some ties to Louisiana as he coached safeties at Nicholls State in 2002 and was the defensive coordinator at two High Schools in the state — Jeanerette (2004) and Franklin (2003).

They should've gone with Corey.......if LSU loses Corey over this, the dominos will fall.

The Rant loved the Pelini hire. If they hate this hire I’m feeling good.

Speak for yourself. This is bad. Bad as Pelini.

Can Woodward be fired yet? Most overrated AD in country. LSU has been a circus and clown show under his “leadership”.

It's laughable at this point. The icing on the cake is when salary details come out and we find out LSU is paying this unproven coach $1.5 - $2 million a year. This coaching search has been a complete clusterfrick and it's mostly on Coach O. We're witnessing the fall of O with this hire.

Aranda sticks it back to O after O threw shade on him about how much better Bo’s D was last Spring?

I think Orgeron realizes his future is determined by the OC/DC hires this year. I can bet he was thoroughly vetted by the staff before the offer. We’ll see if the gamble of getting a lesser known candidate pays off. O will sink or swim so we’ll see. Geaux tigers.

1 yr at Wisky with Aranda makes one an Aranda Protege? Who knew.

Agree if he has such great potential, you would think that Aranda would have added him to his staff at Baylor. This is an enormous gamble by Orgeron considering that so much is on the line.

Loads of experience? Highly recommended by whom? It’s a piss poor hire that’s what it is.

Lol really? His experience is having many jobs. Hardly awe inspiring.

All you nega-tigers! Give the man a chance to succeed or fail. Most of you are looking at it from an ethnicity standpoint (not surprising) in this fanbase, says Ricky Jefferson, but everyone who hated O loved him in 2019, hated him in 2020 and will love him again. Smh

The reason negative shite happens to LSU is because of negative arse people. You don't know how this will turn out, hopefully for the good.
user avatar
LouisianaLonghorn52 months
So the defense sucked because the fans were negative? Yeah. Ok.
user avatar
RoughRanger51 months
LouisianaLonghorn, you read the posting and you come back with that asinine statement. Clearly the post went over your head. I will come down to your level so that you will understand. to The defense was trash because of the Defensive Coordinator that got released. The negative (arse) arse people such as yourself that don't have a clue of this guys capability or is it you just a negative person. Just as no name Joe Brady came in and the offense was elite, just as this no name guy could very well do the same for the defense. I'm sure you have heard and aware of the term choose your battles.

Who says Aranda didn’t try- but why would he take a similar job there while he was in the NFL?
