College Football writer Blake Toppmeyer of USA TODAY Sports recently ranked the best SEC Football Program of all-time, with LSU landing at No. 5 on his list.

Toppmeyer highlighted that LSU is the only SEC program with three different coaches winning national championships in the 21st century, among other things that make LSU a Top-5 program in the SEC.
quote:

5. LSU
LSU is the only program to have three coaches win a national championship in this millennium. Lane Kiffin could become the fourth. Money poured in to fund his roster. LSU’s standards are such that Brian Kelly got fired after winning 71% of his games. In-state talent gravitates to LSU, but the Tigers also built a national brand, and a night game at Tiger Stadium is a college football mecca.
Here's his complete list:
1. Alabama
2. Oklahoma
3. Texas
4. Georgia
5. LSU
6. Tennessee
7. Florida
8. Auburn
9. Texas A&M
10. Ole Miss
11. Arkansas
12. Missouri
13. Mississippi State
14. South Carolina
15. Kentucky
16. Vanderbilt

Oklahoma and Texas haven’t won shite in the SEC. Counting big 12 titles and superimposing that onto the SEC just because conference affiliations changed and then ranking all time SEC programs on that basis is lazy and ignorant.

How many nattys does OU have? Let’s start with football..
user avatar
They’ve won 7 natties in football

This is like counting Ichiro's Japanese league hits toward his all time MLB hits record. Dumb.

LSU had 3 different Coaches in a row win a NC in less than 2 decades. Of course the greatest team to ever play college football was the 2019 NC Champion Fighting Tigers of LSU!!

Two things can be true. OU and Texas have been National Brands for a longtime and have always been one of the best programs in College Football. However, they CANNOT be in the top 5 of SEC Programs because they haven't done anything in the SEC. I would also have Georgia and LSU tied as a program. Recency bias is having them jump us but LSU and Georgia are not equal since 2000, All-Time I would have them tied as a program. Bama is clear cut number 1. Florida, Georgia, and LSU should all be fighting for number 2. I would have Florida 2 and Georgia/LSU @ 3.

Florida at 2? Do you think football wasn’t invented until 1990.

I’m sorry but I still can’t get over how regarded this take is. Florida won 8 SEC titles in a 17 year stretch. That’s it. LSU has 12 SEC titles and UGA 16. They have at least one in nearly every decade since the 30’s.

Texas is the most fraud blue blood of all time. Aside from Mack brown’s run with Young and blowing a natty to bama what have they done?

Absolutely. Texas was fantastic from about 2001-2010 or so, but, they didn’t do squat at the national level in the 80’s, 90’s, and 2010’s. They always seemed to find a way to choke their way to a lot of 9-3 seasons.

Ole Miss at 10 is a joke. They have NEVER been to Altanta. Their last SEC conference championship was in 1963. At the very best, they should be 13th behind Missouri and Arkansas ( conference championship participants this century.)

LSU should 1000% be above Georgia . List is arse. I’m ok with 1&2 but then it gets murky and full of recency bias.

Oklahoma and Texas should be listed in the SEC 2.0, they haven't done anything in football, yet!

Oklahoma? Really lol LSU is what 4-0 against them in bowl games last 25 years -get outta here with that BS. Bama, Georgia, Texas, LSU, Florida.

Arkansas should be ahead of ole Miss. they actually have a legit title. I know ole miss dorks like to claim 1960 but every poll that mattered had Minnesota that year.

Nope UGA, we have more Nattys and own head to head advantage. They benefited for years in 60-80’s not playing Bama regularity and playing UF who won zero SEC’s until the late 80’s. Dooley OOC games were always a joke and GT has about 5 good seasons in the last 50. All this inflates their overall win total. They have won more SEC conference titles but that is.

OU and UT don’t count.

Remove the newcomers. shitlist

LSU can start to say something on the field this year. People get mad about ranking. Just win games and those ranking take care of themselves.
