LSU AND PELINI AGREE TO MUTUALLY PART WAYS

BATON ROUGE – LSU and defensive coordinator Bo Pelini have agreed to mutually part ways.

LSU and Pelini agreed to a financial settlement to end Pelini’s employment agreement with the University. As part of the agreement, Pelini will accept a one-time payment in lieu of the liquidated damages detailed in his contract.

“While this year has been challenging in many ways, the decision to return to LSU – a place that I love with many wonderful memories – is something that I’m thankful for. However, after meeting with Coach O and discussing the future of the program, we have mutually decided that it’s best we part ways,” Pelini said. “I wish nothing but success for LSU, Coach O and the players that I thoroughly enjoyed coaching and getting to know this year. I was proud of how hard our team competed down stretch, the way our young guys stepped up and were developing and the overall direction we were headed.

“I am grateful to call Coach O a friend and I am thankful for the opportunity to come back to LSU, but I have decided to move on in my coaching career. I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Coach O, the staff, the players and the entire LSU community. I will be pulling for the Tigers wherever my next stop may be.”

LSU wrapped up the 2020 season on Saturday with a 53-48 win over Ole Miss in Tiger Stadium to finish 5-5 overall.

That was probably part of the terms of the buy out. Similar to other civil settlements where negative comments are prohibited otherwise the settlement is forfeited.

That said, i think Dan Quinn would be the best available option for DC to replace pelinus. Dan Quinn orchestrated the infamous Legion of Boom at Seattle and once he left Seattle, their defense went down the tubes (compared to what it was under Quinn). Hire Dan Quinn ASAP and have him go get Marcel Brooks back. Marcel left cuz of Pelini's

I never thought Pelini was that good the first time he was here, so i felt this was bad hire from the jump; but that sajd Coach O seemed to like him so much i thought he would give him another year to right the ship. SO this is GREAT SCHNEWS !!! Pelini has made it abundantly clear he is very deficient at making halftime adjustments, which quite often turns out to be the difference between winning the game and losing the game.

Changes should be made in the way the contracts are made for these coaches. The idea of "Guaranteed Money" for early termination for poor performance is ludicrous. Who among us gets paid guaranteed money for doing a bad job. If we keep offering it, they will continue to take it. Enough already.

As I’ve said for a Department with an expected $80 million dollar shortfall they seem to have no problem spending other people’s money. Woodward and Orgeron should pony up a percentage out of their own salaries. Maybe then they would actually think hard about who the new replacement will be and what kind of contract he actually deserves.

O is scrambling he knows another sub par season and this release will have his name in it next year. He needs to prove his coaching ability had something to do with the 2019 season.

Does mutually mean he's waiving final two years or contract? Lol

Sounds like Bo did the right thing by agreeing to significantly less “Go Away” money than what he could have likely received IF he refused to ‘mutually agree’ with the program, right?

Agreed. I hate to see the players have to start over with a new coach.. but it’s certainly in the best interest of their futures. Good luck to Bo, I truly hope the guy gets it figured out and can bounce back. Now coach O’s in a nice position to be able to right the ship on his hiring woes. I wish the man luck. And hope for the players sake, that O gets it right this time. Because the ELITE talent is flowing in. They deserve ELITE coaches.

He was doomed because he defense was literally one of the worst in the country and was actually the worst in program history. It wasn’t just bad...it was historically bad.

If it’s mutual, does that mean he’s leaving some money on the table?...lol yea right

I think so. Do it now and hope for the best or lose one of your best recruiters and a great program guy.

That would be a disaster. I’d love for him to get a shot at a smaller school then come back if he proves himself but promoting a guy with no experience to DC in the meat grinder known as the SEC west is a terrible idea. “Hoping for the best” isn’t how a successful person runs an organization that makes $100,000,000 per year because he’s had the privilege of making hundreds of thousands of dollars to coach DB’s for 8 years
