Nick Saban Admits Leaving LSU For The NFL Was A Mistake

By Staff Reporter•Nov 15, 20241:19 pm•

Crystal LoGiudice-USA TODAY Sports

Former LSU and Alabama head coach Nick Saban was on the Pat McAfee show Friday and said that he probably made a mistake leaving LSU to take the Miami Dolphins job after the 2024 season. Per On3:

quote:
“It’s (LSU is) a wild place. Those people celebrate life, they’re great people, they have fun and you know, they like to have their party time before the game, there’s no question about that,” Saban stated. “The people treated me great there, and I appreciate that.

“You know, Terry and I loved it there. Probably made a mistake going back to pro ball from there. But only way we could go back to college was to go back to Alabama, but that’s a great rivalry. The LSU-Alabama is a great rivalry.”

Wonderful.

If the Dolphins team doctor didn't veto their attempted signing of Drew Brees, Saban probably would've had a great NFL career and the Alabama move would've never happened. Crazy butterfly effect.

no doubt - how they passed in favor of Culpepper is mind blowingly bad......and as a Saints fan, I thank them

Amen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don’t think so. Saban’s model did not fit the NFL players with all the agents and money involved.

What's ironic is he probably would have gotten 10 NC wins at LSU had he stayed.

Nick wanted to come back while at Miami and Skip was not willing to replace Miles with him. That is a fact.
We could have bought out Miles and brought Nick back but ....Skip is deified because of his baseball championships but when it comes to being an AD he was the possibly the worst there ever was. Dan Radakovich ran the place. Skip was a figurehead that intervened when necessary and when he did he usually made really bad decisions. Flame away. I was there.

Heard that also

imjustafatkid•23 months

He's been saying it for decades. Y'all going to post an article every time he repeats it?

Saban was fun to watch at LSU. I can still remember when you came off the field after playing poorly that his emotions were untempered. It was great to watch.

NFL was an itch he had to scratch. Everyone knew that. Unfortunately, LSU wasn't available when he was ready to return to CFB. Had it been, he'd have come back to LSU and would have stayed until he retired. I don't begrudge him his choices. I do lament the championships that could have been.

“But only way we could go back to college was to go back to Alabama“

No Nick. You could also have literally picked any other school.

Timeoday•23 months

Is he subliminally saying, "I would like another chance"?

Pay 70 million and you can gave him.

Nick won his first National Championship at LSU, the first one is always special no matter what he says. LSU was the spring board for Nick Saban. GEAUX TIGERS!

chaso•23 months

Spring board HE NEVER WANTED TO GO TO ANOTHER COLLEGE He thought pro ball was "it" because of Bellicheck! HE WANTED TO COME HOME TO LSU BUT MILES WAS IN, PERIOD!

BayouENGR•23 months

But not too sad about leaving the NFL for Bama.

thetruthisnotkind•23 months

I was a student at LSU during the Nick Saban years. It was awesome. With that said, can we let go of the Nick Saban nostalgia?

hottub•23 months

No one would ever remember another coach in LSU history if Saban stayed.

He will always be the GOAT but Bear’s name will be a close second.

Mike Edmonston claims Saban called Skip and asked for his job back while flying to Miami and Skip said Les had already been hired.

I wish that was true

You must be new here.

“he probably made a mistake leaving LSU to take the Miami Dolphins job “

No he didn’t…that just makes us feel better. However, if you get a chance to go to the NFL for vastly increased salary, you take that opportunity 100% of the time.

This isn't the first time he has said this.
