LSU head coach Brian Kelly spoke with reporters on Wednesday and said that backup quarterback Michael Van Buren Jr. is taking all the first-team snaps in practice this week while Garrett Nussmeier rests during the bye week.
quote:

"It's a great opportunity for him," Kelly said. "We are going to give Garrett some time to rest this week and make sure he's fully at 100 percent. Michael got all the first team reps. He did a great job, but he's still learning. We feel confident in his ability."
Kelly was also asked about developing Van Buren Jr.'s role in the offense, specifically with short-yardage situations:
quote:

"Yeah, we have that package in. We have short-yardage runs for quarterbacks; it's just that I'm not going to take Garrett Nussmeier out of the game to run short-yardage plays.

"We predicate all of that on the type of formations that we run in short yardage, and we gear it towards our quarterback. If he's not our quarterback, we have different answers if it's Michael."

If Nuss could rest the next 4 months, that would be great.

I'd say like 3 years, Spank. Been a good run.

The backup is always the most popular player on the team.

In other words......."Nuss is hurt and has been hurt and I have been deceptive in how serious it is. Now that I'm getting heat, I need the Nuss is hurt excuse for the bad offense."

Instead of what? Hey nuss is hurt but we are gonna play him anyway because hurt he is still the best choice to win and keep everybody happy. Would that have been better?

Van Buren needs a role in this offense. While it is true among fans the most popular player on the team is always the backup quarterback, in this case, it may be a painful reality.

Yes MVB does need a roll in the offense, but the 10 million dollar moron Coach says no. So we look forward to 8-4, maybe

Play the QB who moves the offense consistently, stop playing games. We know what the offense looks like with the QB you want to keep in the game. MVB should play the entire game vs SC with starters not with the reserves.

Get him into the game early and see how it goes.

So, he's saying that there is, in fact, a secret playbook never to see the light of day.

We don't need no stinking 1st down.

Just sit Nuss for the rest of the season and that’ll be better

CBK is stubborn like Les was. He is going to do it his way or bust. Bust is winning.

You can’t get to be a head coach in the SEC without being pretty stubborn? Do you think they should read message boards for fan advice on team decisions?

Well it is his arse and 10 mil on the line, so if I were him I would do it my way too.JS

Watch him get the start and have 400 yds and NUSS will never see the field again. Come on Kelly.

That is a good move, IMO. That is what the bye week is for. Healing up and developement.

So, they have packages for short yardage situations and have a mobile QB, yet BK admits he won’t pull Nuss to gain short yardage by utilizing the mobile QB.

See the problem guys?

I am not suggesting we bench Nuss…but had Van Buren played the second half in total, we win that game. So kelly just said “nope I’m the boss screw the win”

South Carolina is terrible on offense too. Run game is nonexistent like LSU's. Their defense is mediocre at best too. It's a home game. Perfect chance to see what MVB can do while resting Nuss another week. If we score 20 points (OFFENSIVELY), MVB has to be the guy until he completely shits the bed. Seriously, LSU hasn't scored 20 points offensively on a power 4 team this year. If LSU can average 28 points a game, they won't face a legit threat until the SECCG. Ole Miss would have been at 17 points or below had the offense had any kind of output.

That is all just coach talk to appease the beggars of the backup. Van buren ain’t playing unless Nuss goes down for good.

Coaches try to hide things, but fans see what's up. Especially today, fans see everything with social media.
