LSU Falls To Kentucky In Overtime, 35-34

IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect
No. 10 LSU suffered a heartbreaking 35-34 overtime loss to Kentucky on Saturday night at Kroger Field in Lexington, dropping the Tigers to 4-2 overall and 1-2 in SEC play.
LSU appeared to be in position to escape with a victory after taking a 27-24 lead in the fourth quarter on a 41-yard trick-play touchdown pass from wide receiver Jackson Harris to Roman Mothershed.
However, Kentucky tied the game with a 33-yard field goal in the closing seconds of regulation to force overtime.
Quarterback Sam Leavitt opened overtime with a 15-yard touchdown run to put LSU ahead 34-27, but Kentucky answered with a one-yard touchdown run from CJ Baxter.
Rather than kick the extra point, Kentucky head coach Will Stein elected to go for two. Quarterback Kenny Minchey took a draw up the middle for the game-winning conversion, handing LSU its second loss of the season.
The Tigers had opportunities to put the game away late in regulation, but a costly Leavitt fumble and an inability to run out the clock helped keep Kentucky alive.
LSU also surrendered several big plays, including a 77-yard run by Baxter on Kentucky's first offensive snap and a 55-yard punt return touchdown by Brock Coffman in the first half.
The Tigers will look to bounce back next Saturday, October 17, when they host Mississippi State at Tiger Stadium.
