LSU head coach Ed Orgeron joined The Tim Fletcher Show Tuesday morning and was asked about the competition at the quarterback position and whether or not he will use a two-QB system in 2018.
quote:

Question: "Are you open to more than one quarterback receiving a high percentage of snaps in the 2018 season?"

"If we would have one dominant quarterback then he would be our guy," Orgeron said.

"And that may happen in camp and may happen in the season, but they are so close. Every day is a race and they have different skillsets and I want them to be able to use them. So I have no problem with playing two quarterbacks in the game."

"...We will name a starter at the end of camp and we will probably play two quarterbacks but this thing is going to play out through the season. We can name a starter but he still has to perform when it comes game time."

Question: "Which factor is most vital in separating Lowell Narcisse, Justin McMillan, and Myles Brennan on the depth chart?"

"Execution, Orgeron said. "Taking leadership, executing, making the proper calls, making the proper reads and being a leader on the football team. And all three of those guys have the qualities to do it. All three of those at some point have shown that in practice but the need to be more consistent."

Nothing wrong with this, if they can't win it in practice, win it on the field. I'm not a fan of O, and don't even know if he's just talking out his arse or not, but either way, I believe this is the right way to go about it.

Ed’s got to do something to keep at least one of the two on board and not transfer ...saying he is open to two starting qb’s is the answer for now. Once it is past time they can transfer in the Fall this tune will change.

Uhm, if I recall correctly Bama needed 2 QBs in the NC game.

If you have 2.you don't have one.

If one doesn't deserve being the starter then you don't just pick one over the he other at this point. It will work itself out.

Open to playing two QBs actually means we have no QB.

Based on everything I have seen and info from friends I am leaning toward McMillan.

QBs? Why are we talking QBs? Did we get a new kicker or kicking coach?

Also, the new quarterback must execute.

1: is letting the qb comp play out entirely. Competition breeds success. 2: has qb’s with lots of promise and unique skill sets, and wants to possibly utilize any or all of them. 3: no blind loyalty like in the past—you earn the spot and you get it, and you CONTINUALLY show why you should keep the spot and you’ll keep it. 4: Not going to limit our offense—can go dual threat or pro, and either can be done in a spread offense to let our playmakers loose. As long as it’s working, then it’s on to the qb who will get the job done. Honestly, coach O is not only giving us what we’ve screaming about for years, but I really think he’s going to do what gives us the best chance of winning as far as who plays over whom.

I'm surprised the like/dislike ratio is so high base solely on your last sentence, but I'm glad it did and I fully agree.

I'm hoping like hell this is really what he's planning to do. I have always been behind this line of thinking. If the guys don't win it in practice, then win it on the field. Saban played Coker and Sims, Coker and Bateman, and Barnett and Hurts early in 3 consecutive years to decide his QB going forward. Those QBs went 41-4, and all played a big role in their team's success.

This shows he’s leaning toward Myles. LN or Mcmillan will spell him at times running the zone read. Myles is the best passer and it shows when he plays with the first team. He kinda got screwed in the spring game. Running for his life isn’t his MO

This is the SEC man you are gonna be running for your life. You think he is gonna be able to just stand there against Georgia? Against Bama? It better become his MO.

I thought he was the better passer too till I watched this spring game. Not sure any of the three really separate themselves in that regard, and I thought both other quarterbacks looked more comfortable.

Always making excuses for Brennan so sad SMH

I have no doubt that O's plan is to start Brennan - I'm sure (like many others did) that he would separate himself from the pack, and he try well might still be the best option. However, based on Brennan's lack of size & development, he's going to be forced to play at least one of the others.

"But this thing is going to play out through the season" are you kidding me? Make a decision and build the program with some continuity. If they really are that close, then you won't have a big gain or drop if with any of them and no one else is coming. By Aug 1, the team needs to working with the first QB, whoever that is. Get it done already.

Relax Rebecca. The first team QB will get most of the snaps with the first team.

We will name a starter at the end of camp and we will probably play two quarterbacks but this thing is going to play out through the season. Don’t think that’s been said by many coaches prior to winning any kind of championship.

Saban said it a few times including the past 2 seasons and I believe the same with McCarran before he just showed out in his first game
