LSU head coach Ed Orgeron joined the "3ManFront," a sports radio show in Birmingham, AL on Wednesday and talked about the competition at quarterback why he is ok with possibly using a two-quarterback system in 2018.
quote:

"We're trying to find out right now who is going to be our starting quarterback, Orgeron said. "It's a tight race between Myles Brennan, Justin McMillan, and Lowell Narcisse."

"I want to give them all an opportunity, Orgeron said. "Eventually, we will know who the starting quarterback is by the way he acts, by the way he presents himself on and off the field, and by the way he leads the team. And when we feel comfortable announcing a starting quarterback, we're going to do that, it will probably go all the way through camp."

"But let me tell you this... I have no problem playing two quarterbacks," Orgeron said. "If one quarterback can do something very well, the other quarterback can come in do some run for us... we may do that. There are a lot of options we have, I'm excited about all three quarterbacks and so is our team."

If you have 1 QB, you have 1 QB If you have 2 QBs, you have 0 QBs If you have 3 QBs, you have....-1 QBs? Can someone check my math please?

I'M sorry but didn't HC Urban Meyer lead Florida to a Natty a while back with a two QB system with Sr. Chris Leak and Fr. phenom Tim Tebow.

Of the last 8 championship teams the only one to win it all without a QB that could pass and run the ball was Alabama. And last year they had two fellas that could do it. When you are consistently unable to pass the ball and constantly changing qb’s the fault lies with coaching inadequacies. Gotta get it fixed!!

ToppDogg8585 months
There's some validity in your statement. It's not all the coaches fault that there's no development. The top tier QB want to go where the ball is shared to showcase there talent as well. With Les his loyalty was on the ground, pounding the ball. So now we have to try and establish a more balanced attack to attract a more strern dual threat or pro style type QB. Hopefully someone out of this bunch that's there can do it. If not there's going to be a few more years of disappointment.

Hey, here's a concept. Why don't we play a QB who can actually THROW THE DAMN FOOTBALL? I am sick of these so called "dual threat" QBs. The term "dual threat" usually means the kid can't pass. Yeah, he is a "dual threat" until the other defense stops his running. Then when he is forced to throw, HE CAN'T. How many times have we seen this with JJ and Harris? Enough is enough. Throw the ball and I mean accurately and over the damn middle.

First off, JJ was not rated as a “dual threat” QB coming out of HS. Even though Miles tried to force that issue with the short-side option play all too often. Then BH was listed as a dual threat, and Miles tried to force him into being a Pro-style under center. I’m VERY hesitant with my support for CEO, but at least he has not been continuously trying to force a QB into something he is not. That was a Miles trend.

alumni95, I didn;t say anything about what JJ was out of high school and truthfully I don't care. I am telling you at LSU he was a so called "dual threat" QB and he could not throw the intermediate or crossing routes consistently. Regarding Brandon Harris, Miles could have tried Harris under Center, in the shotgun or anything else and Harris would have had the same sorry results because Harris simple was NOT an SEC caliber QB. Once again, I would like a QB who can THROW THE DAMN BALL. Neither Harris or JJ could throw well enough to count on a completion when they had to do it. You can split hairs all you want but that is the fact of the matter.

Stripes you are slick side racist and stupid you don't know a dam thing about football we can all see your just Brennan fan Your talking about when the dual threat can't run and he's force to throw he can't bull crap Lowell can make all the throws Brennan can Brennan can't run when he's force to make a play with his feet get off the hating dude Nick Saban won the national championship with a Dual threat Clemson beat Alabama with a Dual threat to win the national championship Nick saban's defense has trouble with dual threat quarterbacks so get off that with dual threats can't win did you go to LSU first Scrimmage Lowell had 220 passing yards with a 60 yard TD run coach O didn't post those stats but he posted the most recent stats we all clearly see who they want to start but think again Lowell with take what is his and that's the starting Job

Quote: Barbellthor01 “That's what I predict. He is the ONLY one of the QBs that has played in 48 games in the last 2 years!

There is definitely not enough 1st team reps for a 3-man QB race(Especially not in fall camp). Orgeron will continue to try his best to keep all 3 guys on the roster by claiming all 3 guys are even and that he is willing to play 2 guys.

I don't know what some of these nitwits are so enamored with Narcisse about because Brennan is clearly ahead and has much more touch on the ball than Narcisse or McMillan. I am saying this not only from my personal observations but from High School coaches I know who are giving me there opinions after observing the 3 QBs. If you want to "open up the offense and utilize your tremendous talent at WR then the best QB wins and it is NOT close as far as being able to throw accurately and consistantly. Brennan is hands down the winner already. It amazes me that some of the same idiots on this board who screamed and bitched for YEARS about Miles not throwing the damn ball are the same ones bitching about wanting a "dual threat" QB. DAMN, we have been laboring with this pathetic concept for years and it has NOT worked. These same dumbasses are the same ones who swore up and down that Brandon Harris was some fricking great QB and stated Harris would show his capability at UNC under the "great" Larry Fedora. Well, Harris DID show his true talent at UNC and he was benched in favor of a TRUE FRESHMAN. The point is that some of you are just fricking stupid and are clueless regarding QB play and Football in general. Brennan is the clear leader and is far and away the best QB of the 3 but because some of you obviously can't see talent you slobber all over Narcisse who in reality is running neck and neck with McMillan for number 2. This is a fact.

Fair argument, STRIPES. We just have to hope that Brennan doesn’t sneeze mid-game and break his femur.
user avatar
Exactly. I don't see McMillan passing Brennan up or it would've happen last season. But he is needed on the roster. Esp if LN can't stay healthy which he's struggled with n recent years. Look at Pete Carroll offenses at USC and then watch Brennan. He fits that mold of qb that O saw while at USC. My bet is Myles wins the job with Lowell / Justin getting packages. If Lowell can prove to be accurate on those short to intermediate throws which is big n that style of offense then maybe he wins the job.
user avatar

I think Brennan will win the starting job, but we bring Narcisse in some situations like 3rd and short or maybe goal line. Just my opinion.

Honestly I don't think he was expecting McMillan to perform the way he has been. If it had been just Brennan and Narcisse, I think he'd figure out a way to play them both. But with McMillan performing the way he has been thus far this spring, it's thrown everything for a loop.
user avatar
STRIPES86 months
Totally agree. From all I have been told by coaches I trust, it is Brennan who is clearly #1 followed by McMillan and Narcisse with McMillan just slightly in front of Narcisse.

If they both really are as good as hoped, then we'll have to run a 2 qb system to keep one from transferring.

only a total idiot would alter their offensive scheme to try to prevent a QB transfer. Jeez. Pick the best guy and he's your no. 1. An occasional package for the no. 2 (ala Tim Tebow his freshman year) is ok, but nothing more than that. The team needs an undisputed no. 1 QB to rally around.
