Steve Roberts-USA TODAY Sports
Former LSU player Greg Brook Jr. and his father were recently interviewed by Good Morning America to share the safety's rare form of brain cancer that required emergency surgery to remove a tumor.

In the interview, Brooks Sr. said that he had not heard from head coach Brian Kelly since his son's diagnosis in Oct. 2023.

Kelly held a press conference on Wednesday to discuss transfer portal addition and staff updates and led off by addressing Brooks Sr.'s claims.
quote:

"There are many things I can't say, pending litigation, but it is factually incorrect to state that I was not there by Greg's side through this ordeal," Kelly said. "I was there on multiple occasions. There was someone from my staff there virtually every day. We love Greg."

"It was important to me to set the record clear about my care and love for Greg Jr. during this difficult time. "

"You can question me as a football coach, but off the field as a parent and husband, this is where the line is drawn with me."

"That comment struck a nerve with me. It hit my heart."

"I want to be clear: any player who is a part of this program... I am going to be involved in making sure they receive the best care and the best support. And I'm a part of that."

Very sad situation. A brain tumor is like 1 in 2 million. Catching it in a month after symptoms seems early to me.

Any surgery for something so critical is a gamble. God bless.

Just a really sad situation all around. There are no winners regardless of what happens moving forward. As a father of two grown children, I can't say I blame his dad for acting the way he has because when it comes to our children, we are very protective, as we all should be. I just pray for all those involved and lift them up in prayer!

Everyone empathizes with Hreg Brooks.
The most common cause of a headache is a headache. Football player get them all the time. The most common cause of nausea early in the season is lactic acidosis that goes with early season conditioning.
Does every play need an MRI of the brain to rule out a brain tumor, if they get nauseated or have a headache. No. So, extremely rare one off situations like this is not negligence. We know about certain type of tumors doubling time. But, no one knows how long the tumor has been there. Is he suing his junior high and high school?

Let's be clear. They didn't say he was never there. They said they have not heard from BK or any coach since October. The lawsuit is for misdiagnosing Greg. And surgery performed by an unexperienced doctor in that type of surgery. Now I believe coaches love their players like their own kids. And I believe BK loves his players the same. But this is a legal matter, and I'm willing to bet. That the coaches have been instructed to not discuss the matter, or reach out to the family, because this is now a legal issue.

100% this!

I feel like LSU football players get health insurance. There's far too many surgeries, etc, that I highly doubt some of these players are paying for. Does this not cover his cancer?

BK is dangerous. He makes bad decisions on GameDay and practice. ND staffer dies. Now this. Parents beware.

I believe Coach Kelly. I don’t think he is going to lie about this . if push came to shove, they could subpoena the hospital’s check in records to see who the visitors were and when they came.

The Brooks family tryin to get a PAYDAY!!! Disgusting act to use your sons health problems for profit.
user avatar
They're probably scared and trying to figure out how they're going to afford lifelong care for their now disabled son. Looking for a settlement.

And Greg probably doesn’t even know this is happening. I hate people that think they are going to profit off of a situation like this.

@Salarycap yeah i understand what they are doing, but calling out Kelly's character specifically is the part that went too far to me. If it were true, i understand, but unless Kelly went to the hospital and just took a photo op, i don't see how what Sr said could be factual.

Good for CBK, he needed to say something after getting trashed on national TV. I respect him for clearing up what's actually happened.

Good for HCBK. This is where we are... If he shares or posts about going see Brooks in the hospital, people will claim he is making it about him. If he does not post and share, they say he was never there. It sucks that he was put in that position in the first place, but I like that he stood up for himself.

Exactly, he’s damned if he does or doesn’t

I appreciate he came out to defend himself here. Regardless how you feel about him as a coach it seems cheap to question his care towards Greg.

Just visit the RANT and SEC RANT... you see all levels of fans trashing BK. Hopefully it all comes out in the end.
