Five-star power forward Marcus Spears Jr. is officially off the board.

The nation's top-ranked prospect reclassified from the 2027 class to 2026 on Thursday and announced his commitment to Texas over LSU, Arizona, Arkansas and several other finalists.

The move allows Spears to join the Longhorns immediately for the 2026-27 season after emerging as one of the most sought-after recruits in the country.

The son of former LSU All-American and NFL standout Marcus Spears, Spears Jr. is rated the No. 1 overall player in the country, according to ESPN.

F!@k. These legacy kids are our best chance to steal someone with this lofty ranking. Hate to lose out on him. It's not over but dang.

As we've said a thousand times before, you're either a tiger or tiger bait. Will gladly boo him when he comes to the PMAC

Honestly, LSU mens basketball hasn’t exactly had a stellar reputation the past decade. Gotta get a little credibility back before we can expect the #1 player in the country to give us a glance.

Duly noted and agreed!

Can’t help but cheer for the kid and his family. His sister was the number one volleyball player in the country in her class. He is the number one basketball player in his class. Daddy first round NFL pick. Mother first round WNBA pick. They live in Texas. The kids have been raised in Texas. They are Texas people. Can’t hate on them. They are an All-American family.

Saw this coming. But still sucks to miss out on legacy kids. His dad was a true tiger it just didn’t pass on to his kids.

Dang it. Would've awesome to have him at LSU and continue the Spears legacy. I can't blame the kid. LSU is rebuilding and UT is pretty good, so the risk is lower.

Marcus should have made sure he chose LSU--you've got a duty as a father.

And come on back home next season and finish as a Tiger.

If he's busy out on his legacy school. The school is father went to the. The school he apparently loves. Because he's getting a little bit more from Texas, he's a piece of shite. I don't care what anyone says. That's just my opinion. At some point things mean more than money. But it's not just that. He would've got paid either way. Just getting paid slightly more is not enough reason to have zero loyalty or go where you're supposed heart tells you or honor your father

What are you talking about? You sound like an absolute moron. Both his mom and dad are diehard LSU and they preach it every chance you get. The kid chose to make his own legacy outside of his parents. Some of you are so stupid, you just can’t help showing how retarded you really are.

Marcus Sr.was never that "in" to LSU.

And you know this how?

Everything about Marcus Sr would contradict that assertion. Baton Rouge kid, National Champion with a huge INT returned for TD vs OU and constantly repping LSU on ESPN.

FYI: It would be"into".

His schooling of Stephen A. during the 2019 season is enough to solidify his LSU fandom for me.
