Many believes Jalen Hurts leaving Alabama and head coach Nick Saban was the best thing for his career. Now it seems, at times, Saban still claims Jalen as his player. Joseph Goodman of AL.com shared his thoughts on the matter...
quote:

"The best decision he ever made was leaving Alabama for Oklahoma. Don’t get me wrong here. I still consider Hurts more of an Alabama guy than an Oklahoma guy, but would Hurts have developed into the quarterback he is today had he remained in Tuscaloosa? Not likely.

"Did Hurts benefit from his time at Alabama? Sure. Hurts absorbed the best parts of being coached by Saban, and then he studied under OU’s Lincoln Riley. But the thing that always pushed Hurts forward was that mysticism locked inside his own heart.

"Was it important that Hurts transferred to Oklahoma to play under Riley? Was that the thing that finally unlocked Hurts’ potential? Well, that’s debatable. Saban says he pushed Hurts to OU because of Riley’s ability to coach quarterbacks."

No one gives a shite about what Joey Goodman thinks.

For the millionth time...Hurts started multiple years at Alabama...won SEC and NC rings at Alabama...and GRADUATED from Alabama. This "debate" is laughable.

Hurts probably wouldn’t claim Murderer U now.

What was Saban supposed to say? No comment.

I mean, Hurts claims bama and Saban, who shouldn't Saban claim Hurts, an alumnus and part of national championship team? Btw, Oklahoma didn't teach hurts to pass, bands did in 2018 when Enos was the 10th assistant QB coach. Hurts accuracy and qbr went up massively that year before he transferred, just Tua was better at the time. Hurts is awesome, I can't think of a single bama fan who was mad he transferred, who was unhappy so how well he did at Oklahoma, or who isn't thrilled with how he's doing in the NFL. The guy won a lot of games for us, played his heart out, and when he lost the QB battle he showed everybody how to handle yourself

He's shown more than that. He should be the face of the NFL.

Saban is a slimeball insufferable prick. Hurts is the product of Lincoln Riley. Nothing to do with that greasy car salesman in Tuscaloosa

wrong. Hurts is the product of the Eagles. They've surrounded him with a phenomenal team and coaches and put him into position to maximize his talents and not try to make him something he isn't.

Hurts didn't show real passing improvement until his second NFL season...so I'd say whoever the Philly QB coach is had the real impact on his development.

Well, that’s one way to interpret his words.

If you’re an idiot that is.

Actually he didn't do much more statistically at Oklahoma. jalen got a great coach at Philly that worked with him. There is where he became great.

Seems kind of humble of lil Nick to say that. Good for him admitting to it.

"You can't find a better guy...he just wasn't good enough to start here".

Lame explanation Nick.

Saban has made many poor decisions because of knee jerk reactions in order to keep on winning. Fact is Lincoln Riley was the mentor Hurts needed!

Coach Saban advised Jalen to go to Oklahoma. He was considering Maryland and Miami. Again, Jalen did what the coach asked him to do and the rest is history.

Saban booted Hurts in 2019. That's not a young-Saban decision. That's an elderly-Saban decision. Young Saban probably would not have made that mistake.

What? No, it killed saban to go with tua. He loved Hurts.

Just because a coach benches you or even cuts you that doesn't mean they don't care or wish you the best. Most coaches even hope you prove them wrong.

Goodman and hit piece, nothing new. Truth is Jalen went to 3 straight NC with BAMA and started 2 of them. Won a title and has a BAMA degree. Did I mention that Goodman has autism?

Nick can claim he benched Hurts at halftime of a national championship game.
