Tacoma TRD PRO

Looking at a 2025 Tacoma TRD PRO today at Hampton Toyota in lafayette. Anything I should know or be concerned with on the truck. The kids are all out and in college, so at this point, I’m looking to downsize and I still have an old 2door beater Ram as my working truck

Find a nice 2023 V6. The Turbo 4 cylinders are still experimental in my book.

I had a 26 Taco as a loaner when my 19 Tundra was getting some quivk recall work done. Drove ok and no issues but personally, I'd get a Frontier. I just don't care for 4 banger turbos.
My brother has a 98 Tacoma stick shift he still daily drives in the DC area even though he's a patent lawyer making the big bucks.

I have a 25 4Runner TRD… only thing I can tell you is to let the vehicle idle for a minute or two before turning it off if you’ve been driving the interstate (iForce engages and apparently runs hot, it needs to chill a minute before cutting it off).
I have 14k miles so far and no problems.

Get the Nissan Frontier with the V6 over the Tacoma Turbo 4 cyl.
In 2024 Nissan exited the full size truck market, and decided the Frontier would be their only offering. Toyota moved away from the V6 in their Tacomas to a Turbo 4 cyl. Nissan stayed with the V6 in the Frontier.

The wacko seats in the TRD Pro Tacoma made the back seat almost unusuable.
You should at least look at a loaded Pro 4X Frontier. Significantly cheaper, like $15k, more old-school and mechanically much simpler: naturally aspirated V6 instead of turbo hybrid

Just bought a 2026 Frontier after having Silverado's since the early 2000's.
Scared off from GM's due to known engine/transmission issues. Have a friend that bought a 2024 Silverado and the transmission blew in under 20k miles.
Last kid I have is starting to drive so longer need a full size for the room. Shopped the mid-size market the last couple of years and settled on the Frontier over the Tacoma. Liked the traditional V6 and runs about 8 - 10k cheaper than the Toyota.
So far so good. Does what I need a truck to do.

If it’s just you and the wife and you don’t plan on hauling anything bigger than a few bags of sand the Tacoma is perfect. I love Tacomas and really wanted one but when I started test driving them, I quickly realized it’s an absolute no with kids. I got a Tundra instead.

The Frontier might be the most reliable truck on market at this point
Bulletproof V6 they have been using forever
They did switch transmissions recently though

They are small, if you plan to carry fishing rods or long guns in hard cases. You have to give the turbo a chance to cool before you shut down the engine.
I just stepped away from F150 and got lucky on 5.7 Tundra.
I would give the turbo 4 a few years to prove themselves

Although I love my 2012 Taco SE5 Prerunner I would have to agree with you. That 4L V6 in mine ain’t no hotrod but it is practically bullet proof. If I was looking for a new mid size truck, I would absolutely look hard at the Nissan w/the V6. Don’t want no turbo ANYTHING, especially a banger in a truck.
