Annual Trout Trip - Grand Isle

A couple buddies and I are scheduled for our annual trout trip to Grand Isle - Friday. Was curious how the bite has been. I know the wind/weather hasn't been favorable thus far. Forecast is looking promising for Friday. We typically launch at Sand Dollar and fish 4 bayou area. Haven't done very well the last couple years, though. Any tips would be greatly appreciated !

I fished 4 bayous week before last (May 30). water was off and not much action. I hear the fish are more west but that all could have changed since.

I’m looking for a guide for June 19th. Southern Anglers is booked up.

Saw some folks catching some hammers in front of Elmer’s today in the waves. I would get some live shrimp and croakers and fish Elmer’s island. Try to find some decent water.
Fish the shrimp under a cork and free line the croakers.

Annual Trout Trip - Grand Isle
Man, years ago we used to have a trip to Cocodrie about this time of year for a week of trout fishing. Those were the good old days!

Tips : Live shrimp under a cork or free lined near the rocks in front of the island or in the back bay. A lot of people don’t fish the back, bay but I usually do very well there. In the heat of the summer the bite ends early so you have to start at first light. They usually bite good in the evening too. Also I know you have your dates set but I don’t make the drive there unless tide and wind are favorable. I make a lot of day trips. Good luck !!!

This weekend was tough, burned a ton of fuel between Fourchon and Grand Isle…tried all my typical spots with live and artificial and simply couldn’t find them.
Luckily our offshore snapper charter was a success.

Ahh. Meh. We started at Elmer’s - had a boat literally every 50 yards between Elmer’s and Fourchon. Caught 1 there
From there, ran to some islands north of grand isle. Caught a ton of specks. Only 15 keepers tho. Catch ratio is about 15 non - 1 keeper.

Likewise - water clarity was terrible everywhere and it’s was freaking hot. Finally found some nice water in Lake Laurier. Lots of 12” specks.
Gulf was fairly rough in front of Elmer’s. Big breakers - guys fishing in the surf had a better shot.
Weather this week will be crap and a strong SW wind to boot.

Fished Thu-Sat, maybe had 20 keeper trout, 2 reds and a couple sheeps between 2 boats. Not nearly what normally happens in mid June with a good tide. This was a 12th annual fishing trip we do every year, normally it’s a couple coolers of fish yo clean by Sunday.

I'll make sure to bring good whiskey and make an appointment with the crab guy.

I'll be there the 26th - 28th for a tournament. I got your first Bushwacker at the end of the Island if you're there.
