He was really good. Polished, well-liked. I believe he got Alzheimer’s and wasn’t that old.

I was little then, but he seemed like a good governor. I do remember that he was very popular when his governor term ended.
He did get Alzheimer's, and wasn't very old at all.

He was a damn good Governor, was making waves on the national scene, then went off to make the big bucks as head of the insurance industry trade association or something like that.

Campbell was a solid guy. He was on his way to the floor of the 1988 Republican National Convention when his cell phone rang, but when he answered it the call disconnected. In less than an hour Dan Quayle was named as George H.W. Bush's running mate. Campbell was convinced that the call had been from Bush to ask him to be his VP.
