Where to get good tomatoes?

I just came back from a trip to the Ohio Valley (PA/WV/OH) and the tomatoes there were phenomenal. Not sure if it’s the soil or what, but I bought from various roadside stands and farmers markets and they were all sweet and delicious. Unfortunately I’ve never been able to find anything close in Louisiana. Does any place in BR or the surrounding area sell legit tomatoes? Rome’s in Welcome is my normal go-to but they’re nowhere near as good as what I had up there.

You may want to try a couple plants @ home, grow your own…

From about mid July on, good luck finding farm grown tomatoes in LA. By then it's just too damn hot. There may be a few greenhouse places but grown in the ground tomatoes are gone now.
This is one of the best 'truck farm' places in the state and they ran out at least two week ago.

If you don't find anything fresh, the Dei Fratelli canned tomatoes sounds like that. Much sweeter than others, and I believe they come from up that way.

True. About the only tomato still producing in my garden is the Florida 91. It’s a hybrid hot house tomato, so not near the taste of Creole of better boys.

I've tried several 'heat tolerant' tomatoes such as Arkansas Traveler, etc. but come mid June or at least the first of July they just can't handle the heat where I live.

I went to planting containers and will never go back to ground garden plantings. No weeds , much better production, I have several varieties creole, somer sets, homesteads all producing still. I use the 20 gal bigs pots range cubes come in. Look up Leon’s gardening. We have five of those and get a small basket everyday. Great Tomatoes!

Since the advent of climate and weather certain places have different growing seasons. So in the Ohio valley fresh, homegrown tomatoes are in season. Whereas in the south tomato season is petering out. Of course anybody with a functioning brain already knew this..

My chick grows great grape tomatoes. Split in half, hit them with salt, profit.
