Coke and peanuts? (Farmer’s coke)

I’ve heard of it but I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone do it.

My mom said they used to do that at recess in grammar school - but they didn’t put the whole bag of peanuts in the bottle of Coke

I used to do it all the time. I still do it every once in a while. Ice cold Coke with a big handful of salted peanuts. It all just goes together so good. The Coke, the peanuts, and the salt. It's delicious.

I just use a big glass. No need for bottles really. Plus the bottles made it hard to get the last peanuts out after you run out of Coke. And you always run out of Coke before you get all the peanuts. It just happens that way.

I imagine you either love it or hate it though.

Everyone should give it a try. Kinda sad so many have never heard of this. I thought this was a southern tradition.

Common in SC and NC as late as the late 70s, maybe later. It seemed to die off when glass bottles were phased out. I loved it as a kid but probably haven't had it since '77 or so.

The salt adds nucleation points until it dissolves, so you get a quick loss of carbonation so it will get pretty flat if you don't drink it pretty fast and most adults liked it in a 6.5oz bottle, possibly due to that, as a kid, I wanted the full 10oz version because soda was not something I was allowed to drink all the time.
