Worst pet peeve in anything travel-related for you?

For me when I see someone traveling and instead of eating somewhere local they eat at a chain restaurant. I just wonder why....

Both involve air travel.
1. When I'm in line at TSA and people wait until they are at the belt to remember "oh yeah, I have a laptop in my bag. And liquids. And my shoes are on. Oh and will my phone set off the detecter? Because that's still in my pocket, along with a bunch of loose change! Sorry I only had 20 minutes standing in line to think about this but just realized this second."
2. When everyone from rows 34-218 stand up the second the plane comes to a halt. "Oh I'd better get my bag that's in a storage bin 3 rows behind me because there's only 18 rows ahead of me waiting to deboard!" Sit down and be patient.

TSA Precheck. You don’t have to worry about that crap.

The standing up doesn’t bother me, if someone wants to stand up who cares. It’s the people who start moving up the isle immediately that I can’t stand.

Pretty much all Asian tourists. They have zero concept of personal space or respect for other travelers. The next little 4"10' Grandma that tries to move me out of the way so she can get her selfie stick shot somewhere is going to get a forearm shiver.
Also, the more times I've gone abroad the easier it is to spot American tourists and we can be pretty damn embarrassing. God forbid Janet from Iowa has to pay for a refill on her Diet Coke without letting everyone within earshot know how ridiculous she thinks it is.

When you've been in India for 2 weeks and get the bubble guts, the bathroom at the Pizza Hut in downtown New Delhi at Connaught Place are the cleanest around.
Not that I know anything about that.

I'll do chain if it's a regional thing - i.e. whataburger or braum's in Texas).
However, otherwise, I try to go local. Also, when people hit up starbucks in other cities instead of a local coffee shop

Both of those are spot on.
Kind of similar, people who try to put their belt/shoes on and repack their bags on the TSA conveyor belt and hold up everything. I’ve started telling people to move, which is probably a douche move in itself, but damn it it drives me crazy.

My peeve is related to that: why are so many Americans so effing LOUD? Go anywhere in the world, and the shouty loud talker ruining everyone’s experience is usually an American. I had a lovely teatime in a Mariage Freres nearly ruined by a very, very loud Chicagoan who wouldn’t shut up about her book in revisions. She wasn’t being boastful, just inane and loud. A French gentleman at the next table to me (across the tea shop from her) complained to the waiter, who just shrugged. So he went over and politely asked her to keep,it down (in English), as perhaps she didn’t realize that everyone could hear her. She was rude to him in return.
This is just one of dozens of stories I have about shouty Americans abroad. Why can’t we chat in our indoor voices?

for some reason, airports are where people lose all sense of spatial awareness and it drives me crazy...

It's because the entire experience sucks arse which leads to people trying to gain some semblance of control over the shitiness they are engulfed in

People that bring suitcases on planes that won't fit in the overhead bin or are too heavy for them to handle putting in an overhead bin by themselves. Just check the bag.
Also don't like airports that don't have separate TSA precheck lines.

When I travel the food is not a high priority for me. There are international restaurants of nearly any type where I work. I usually just want to grab something fast so I have more time to see stuff. Most of what I eat really doesn't fall into the "restaurant" category. Chain restaurant - OK, that is not going to happen but chain fast food certainly will.

Traveling with a compulsive photo taker/ social media junkie. I have been known to be rude about this. When water is not readily available at my hotel. Traveling with a woman who overpacks.

Having dinner or experience any type of service in another country and the people I’m with expect it to be the same as the US.
People that are always in a rush when visiting a quiet sleepy island

You clearly have not travelled around many Indians.

I've never experienced anything similar to this abroad, although I'm not low income and don't frequent fast food establishments like most of the people on this site
