The Hunnington in Pasadena was luxurious.
I have stayed at wonderful Tuscan villas if you want to count those as hotels.
Not the most luxurious, but the best view - A room at the Villa Gabrisa in Positano with a 24' X 24' private terrace overlooking the Mediterranean.
The Acapulco Princess was the standard of its time, but that was over 40 years ago.

I stayed there about 20 years ago. Before then I hadn’t done much traveling at all so it blew me away.

Yes. The Acapulco Princess.
I stayed there twice in the early 1980s.
That fancy tropical pool with the swim up grotto bar was pretty much their invention at the time.

Inkaterra Machu Picchu - stunningly great grounds, very well run, and very nice room. It was part of a tour or I probably would not have paid that much directly. And I see it has doubled in price in the last 3 years.

Didn’t stay at the Trump in Chicago but went with Mrs Bok for a spa treatment. It was pretty average for a 4-star hotel. Not to rag on you — I just never heard anyone say that particular hotel stands out compared to other hotels in Chicago.
For us, I would say Four Seasons in Kyoto. And the Burj Al Arab in Dubai. We’ve been fortunate to travel extensively and stay at many different places.
The Four Seasons is a gorgeous property with a small lake, tea house and temple. It fits the Kyoto ethos well yet is modern and airy.
The Burj Al Arab is just stupid. Even the wet floor signs are gold plated. We had the smallest room and it was 2,300 square feet. It’s total Dubai excess. And somehow really fun to be there.
In general, the hotels overseas are much better than those in the USA. As are the airlines and airport lounges. It’s crazy the difference.

The nicest room was at the Park Hyatt Paris Vendome. Funny thing about it was we were staying for free thanks to a Hyatt credit card signing bonus. We checked in and were treated like royalty, and the room we had was absolutely insane. I still think they confused us with someone

LINK the Fairmont has an interesting history. Built by the daughters of a man named Fair to honor their dad. Dad got very rich hitting the Comstock lode in virginia city, Nevada. Daughter Teresa had one of those Newport, r.i. mansions named Rosecliff. So happy fathers day.

quote:Thanks for the info. I went to Virginia City for a day many years ago. That had to be a rough place back in the 1800's when they were mining because it is still pretty damn rough place. You gotta want to be out there
