if any city is #1, its NYC (although not right now).

I'd swap yellowstone and yosemite, and place boston higher. Aside from that, it's a great overall list.

Dear Friend,
Perhaps you have yet to travel to Texas?
Or have, perhaps, some personal peeve with our neighbor state?

Surely a road trip to Marfa and the Big Bend Country would be of interest to you and Mother. And your readers.
Sincerely,
DeCat

Friend,

How is it that you are such a worldly traveler and have been to virtually every country and state? Climbed El Capitan. Are you a wealthy philanthropist? A flight attendant? An over the road trucker?

The depth and breadth of content exceeds even Google.

Best Wishes,

Nole Man

Hmm. Maybe you should retitle this to "top-50 vacation destinations in the continental US." Because if you otherwise don't have anywhere in Hawaii in the top 50, something is wrong with you.

Also, you say that Chicago is boring but tell me to go to New Haven and St. Louis to eat pizza? Chicago is not boring. It has the best skyline in the country and is architecturally fascinating, among many other gifts.

Otherwise, this was a lot of fun. Thanks for writing and sharing it.

NYC was great, but there was more to see and do in San Fran than anywhere else.

Next time you are in Virginia, try Lexington for a more refined experience. Much smaller town which has retained its flavor and culture. More civil war history. Plus Washington and Lee and VMI. A place I am considering as a retirement spot one day.

Tulane you're an interesting fella and I enjoy your posts but you lost me at Krotz Springs.

Yeah, and New Haven, CT ahead of the Panhandle beaches. But there are many I agree with. Sadly, N.O. in its current state is much too high.

Stopped in Lexington for lunch at Niko’s Grille last fall and the fresh hummus & warm pita bread were very good. I had a Ruben that was the best I’ve ever had. Thought the wife’s Greek salad was just average though.

We had been to Natural Bridge State Park and one of the employees recommended it.

Yes. I attended Washington and Lee. I spent 4 wonderful years in Lexington. We did a lot of hiking in NBSP, Goshen, Rockbridge Baths, etc

3 in and the list is shite. Way better options in the Northeast.

TulaneLSU seemingly has a longstanding hatred with Chicago, for whatever reason.
Nevertheless, it's an interesting list.

Though I agree with you. While Chicago has many issues and challenges that come with living here and is the favorite whipping boy city of the OT, I have to question and doubt anyone who can visit here, particularly in the Summer or Fall, and not have a great time (this obviously applies to pre-lockdown COVID nonsense).

Pretty good and thorough list. For my personal preference, I did not find St Louis to be all that noteworthy, other than the Arch. I think I would also need to find room on the list for a small Alaska town like Talkeetna and somewhere in Hawaii. I would also substitute Athens for Auburn but that’s just me. Lots of great places to visit in America, that’s for sure.

28. Princeton, NJ
The apogee of the college town in America, Princeton has some interesting Revolutionary War history and is a short train trip to both NYC, Trenton, and Philadelphia.

Could not be more boring. Drive 30 minutes west to Lambertville and walk across the bridge to New Hope.

24. Montpelier, VT
It does not get small town New England better than Montpelier in late September and early October when the leaves are turning. Brilliant!

If not BTV, would much rather spend time in Middlebury, Stowe/Waterbury and Woodstock.

Friend,

Missoula is a dump. You've apparently never been to Bozeman or Whitefish.

Lake Travis in Austin TX, and Sedona AZ probably could have found a way onto this list. Also the Black Hills in South Dakota.

This is an LSU site. And Omaha in June is a bucket list type trip. It is def a top 50 type place. I went when we beat TX in CWS in 2009. Awesome experience and worth a mention for sure.

There are def some I’m forgetting. Hard to do a top 50 in such a big country. We’re all blessed in that regard. Lot to do and see here. Good list though I’m glad you posted. Gives me ideas for future trips so thank you.
