As in back to normal pre COVID. Don’t be naive

I don't think they will since most domestic travel is open right now, even though some states are not really open

I had one domestic and three international trips cancelled in the first half of the year (Alaska, Kenya, Canada, Iceland) and made three international trips in the second half of the year (Ecuador, Peru, Brazil).
Kenya has opened up and I plan to make up that trip in March if I can get through layovers in Europe, which I think I will be able to. Hoping things will open up in Iceland by late spring or summer but not getting my hopes up for it. Same with Canada. Alaska I should be able to do this summer.
Obviously every international destination is different even under normal times. Some countries require just a passport while others require an expensive visa in advance. COVID has just added another layer to the process. When I went to Peru, not only did I have to wear a mask on the flight but also a face shield. Also had to have a recent COVID test. Flying to Brazil, I just needed the mask and no test was required.
I'm more of an adventure solo traveler than a vacation traveler with a wife and kids. I went to Peru to see Machu Picchu and Brazil to see Christ the Redeemer. I did little else. So as long as I can get to the places I want without completely unreasonable restrictions or requirements, I will still travel.
I want Jordan to relax its restrictions soon because Petra is the last of the Seven Wonders that I haven't seen. Kenya, Iceland and Jordan are the three countries I am watching the closest at this point.

My hopes and plans are to go to the Napa Valley then down the Pacific Coast Highway to the LSU-UCLA game around Labor Day then go on my next European vacation for April 2022.

Have you thought about Tanzania instead of Kenya? I did both in November and while you can get into Kenya with a 96 hour PCR test it's not all that open. We had to wear masks everywhere, including in the vehicle, and there were random traffic stops checking for this. Once we crossed over into Tanzania the masks came off for good. Tanzania did ask for proof of Yellow-fever vaccination, though, even though this was not supposed to be required, and asked for a covid test within 10 days. They were probably just fishing for a bribe, and let us in after some discussion. That said I liked northern Tanzania far more than southern Kenya/Nairobi.
Back to topic - I think travel will be largely back to normal by summer 2021. Proof of covid vaccination may be required and I really couldn't care less. I'll get the vaccine as soon as I can, and I already have had to use my Yellow-fever vaccine card on a number of trips so it's really nothing new. So far I've booked a month long trip to Borneo in July 2021 and a month in Australia in the fall. Guatemala and Ecuador in the spring if the logistics work out - those might be shaky.

Yeah, we had no trouble connecting through Amsterdam, just could not leave the airport. Delta/KLM works well for Africa.

We stayed at Stellaris and enjoyed it. It was empty so we got front row beach palapas whenever we wanted. Same for spa and dinner reservations. The casino was limited occupancy so that was a waste.
They didn’t monitor the Covid test very well. One person got the wrong test and another didn’t have results. Both got through

I'm hoping for the best, expecting the worst.
There were a couple of places in the US we've been eyeing. And its about time for another European trip ... but I'm not sure if that's going to happen.

I booked an Amazing Race type trip (with multiple stops) from July 20-August 7. One leg is Lusaka, Zambia to Rome connecting through Dubai on Emirates.
Got an email from Emirates last Monday advising the Dubai-Rome connection is canceled and rebooking us the next day. Emirates apparently expects insufficient demand to justify a daily flight to Rome. And this is already after cutting back to a 777 from an A380.
Screws up my itinerary though Dubai is a good place for a 26 hour layover.

My advice is hold back from booking until the situation becomes more clear, nearer the time, the usual European favourites like Greece and Spain will get expensive when covid rates drop, but further away in more exotic areas will still be available for a bargain. I'm personally planning my trip to Greece next year- get all documents arranged and translated through https://thewordpoint.com/services/certified/certified-translations-affidavit . Oh and almost forgot to mention Albania. It is a favourite of ours for a summer trip...last time I looked they were fully open, and had been for quite a time. Keep us informed please, this could be informative for the more adventurous travellers amongst us.

Zero chance things open back up internationally
So you are saying there is zero chance international travel is available in 2021?
Even though there are international destinations you can travel to now.
Even if things are open, many employers (mine is one) are forcing quarantine of 14 days after international travel. Therefore, effectively, I can't travel internationally.

No way California is allowing fans in the stands then.

will flight prices increase or decrease?
Prices will decrease initially to try to get passengers back in seats, but increase later due of reduced schedule and competition that was available in 2019. Fuel prices will continue to go up as well, further reducing options. This is the international travel outlook. Domestic will coming back strong.

My daughters university is planning a study abroad program this summer to Italy. Florence for three weeks and then idk where after.
I read that currently there is no non-essential travel to Italy. Do they excuse students??
I do t think it’s worth her spending the money unless things are open — cooking classes, winery visits, museums are all on itinerary.
Not to mention I don’t want her taking the vaccine at this point.

Their only hope is that Italy decides they really need tourist money this summer.
The lack of US tourists last summer was felt. Europe alone cannot spend enough to keep places like Italy afloat.

It seems that students are “essential” and ok for travel. My other concern aside from attractions being open is the covid test to re-enter the US. If she would be positive would they leave her there alone — she’ll be 20 but alone in a foreign country during covid isn’t high on my list of things I hope happen.
They’re working on a plan and tell us that she won’t lose any money. Time will tell. I told her if it gets postponed until next year she’d have more time to save money. Looking on the bright side.

quote:This is exactly where I'm at as well. We usually do a big family trip in the summer with the kids, but have no plans this summer. Last summer, we went to Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg and while it was nice to get away it wasn't quite the same. And it was a royal pain in the arse to eat anywhere because of limited capacity. From that experience alone, told the wife that I don't want to waste any more money unless wherever we go is 100% back to normal so we get the full effect again.
I refuse to go anywhere that will require masks to be worn, proof of vaccine, international registry, etc.

I am ready to take a few trips planned (not booked) but frick all that nonsense!
Also, the Karens are out of control at vacation destinations.

This is a good question to ask if they would keep a faculty member behind for this situation.
You may be on the hook though for the extra expenses. I'm assuming everyone is paying their own way.
If the school is paying for faculty they may stay behind. If they are not, chances she's alone goes up probably.

They were out in Florida early on but we ran them off rather quickly. Other than Disney and metro Miami, most of Florida was maskless by July.
