Yo Abita coming up in Oct. flying in driving to Stowe for 4 days. Then back to city for 4 . Staying the Godfrey which I guess is considered downtown. Any resteraunts recommendations in area . I see Yvonnes was mentioned way back. Hoping its still a thing, TIA.

Abita, are you a North Shore Roast Beef fan? If so, is there one you recommend around Logan or heading north, preferably not too far off of I-93? I probably wouldn't go any further than Lynn Lynn, City of Sin.

Just got back from a Nantucket/Boston trip. Had a great time and got lucky with the weather. We used information posted here to help plan the trip.
There were four of us and the high lights for us were:
- Giacomo's; I actually ate here about 25 years ago on my only other time in Boston on a business trip. It did not disappoint.
- Red Sox's/ Yankees game Friday night. Perfect weather, great game.
- Freedom trail; we did not buy a tour but talked to many of the people in the various buildings and got a good understanding of the history and events. It took us all morning and we had seen the Constitution and Bunker Hill Monument the day before (we drove there from N'tucket).
- Whaling museum on Nantucket
- Seaside walk at Siasconset (Scronset?) on the east side of the island.
- Using the T to get around and fortunately for us nothing broke down. There was an Orange line stop next to the hotel.
- The public gardens next to Boston Common.
- Art's Dune Tours in Provincetown
- Boston Creame Pie from Mike's Pastry; very good.
- The library walk through

We found the people to be very friendly. We were trying to figure out how to buy our Charlie Card for the T and the MBTA worker comped us. We did buy a 24 hour card the next day as we needed it to get to Fenway, etc.
We had conversations with several random people that gave us good information. They were all friendly and helpful.
We didn't see it all so we'll probably go back at some point but it's a great place to visit.

Wife and I are planning to go next summer. I have scoured your original thread and made notes on what we want to do. Do you have any updated recommendations for restaurants especially. But I will take more suggestions on anything you want to give. This is the GOAT travel thread by the way. TYFYS

It is desperately in need of an update, as some places have closed since I wrote this and many other great spots have opened up that should be added.

Abita, we have a group of 6 going May 5th-10th. We are in our early 30s. Got any night life tips? Cinco de Mayo is our first night there.

One of the popular places to go for Cinco is a restaurant in Southie called Loco. I have to be honest, it's a younger crowd (mid-20s mostly) and being in my mid-30s I wouldn't set foot in there as I would be wildly out of place.
I just did a quick search online and it looks like a couple companies are doing a bar crawl with a tacos and tequila theme on May 6th if that's your thing. What are you looking for when you say night life? Clubs? Because I have to be honest I'm not the right guy to ask about clubs either. I'm more of a late dinner and drinks kind of nightlife person.
I see that David Cross is performing at the Wilbur Theater that week (I actually may try and snag a ticket for that). There's a decent chance the Celtics will be playing in the Eastern Conference semi-finals that week. Unfortunately the Sox will be on the road when you're here.

Yes that's the place. They usually have live music throughout the day for Cinco. I'd recommend getting there early enough to get in - there's usually a line out the door that evening.

How is the Cambridge area? May or may not be in the interview process with a company based out of there. Would have to move up that way if I get the position then would have to find a decent spot to live

Cambridge is great. Lots of great restaurants and bars, mostly residential and/or college areas, so very safe. If you end up moving up that way, I'd recommend being near one of the squares (Harvard, Davis, Kendall, Central) so that you're in walking distance to a T stop.
Fair warning though, it's not cheap to live there.

That is one of my main worries leaving WA and moving to another just as expensive area. Plus y'all have income tax up there. Looks like NH is just far enough away from that area to make it a pain to commute as well

Yes NH would potentially be an option. You'll probably have about an hour commute each way, but at least Cambridge is on the north side of Boston so you wouldn't have to get through the city to get to work.

I lived on Comm Ave in Allston 06-09 and used to get puke drunk on cfb saturdays at several bars that are now obsolete.
