Bump,

Doing the flying to Boston and driving to Maine deal at the end of next month. Still have research to do for the Maine part of the trip, going to spend a few days in Portland with some extended family then we'll have 4 or 5 days on our own to travel the coast. Leave SA and fly into Boston on Wednesday afternoon, taking water taxi to our room on the Wharf. After a nap the plan is for some drinks somewhere around the hotel, following Abitas recommendations we doing dinner at Giacomo’s and dessert at Bova and then either call it a day or a few more drinks somewhere up that way.

Never been to Boston so Thursday is typical tourist stuff, thinking of getting the Old Town Trolley Tour Pass for the day and hitting up the spots we want to see and skip others, recommendations on those are helpful. Maybe do a on water harbor tour as well. That is about as far as I've gotten so far. Trying to figure out if we should stay a 2nd night at our hotel and get our car Friday morning and head toward Maine(fighting traffic I'm sure)or get it Thursday evening and get out of Boston Thursday night when the traffic dies down. Two questions with second scenario which is what I prefer, what to do with luggage all day while we are out sight seeing and where to drive to and stop Thursday night. Wife wants to do a whale watching tour, she mentioned Gloucester but it seems out of the way and from what I've read the tours out of Maine will be going to see the same pods of whales so I'm not sure if the time to head to Gloucester is worth it. I could be very wrong about all of that so any advise is welcomed. 2 to 3 days in Arcadia is on the list during the following week for sure. FYI, both 50, not really into breweries, always up for a great meal, not joggers or bikers, wife is pro photographer, med level hiking ok. Thank you all advise and recommendations.

I don’t know how much you care about history but one of my favorite things I did in Boston was walking the freedom trail. I didn’t do a paid tour but just downloaded the app and it was a really good time.

Thanks, went ahead and bought tickets for the Old Town Trolley, 18 stops all over the North End. We will definitely hit the Freedom Trail. You hop off where you want and jump back on the next Trolley when it comes by, reviews I read said they hit the stops about every 15 mins. Also rented my first car through Turo, we'll see how that goes as well.

Nice. I’ve really liked using Turo the couple times I did. We didn’t do the hop on/off thing but just hoofed it. Boston is a very walkable city . I loved it there and I usually hate big cities.

Off to a roaring start, had a baby crying in seat behind us for about an hour on the last leg into Boston. Get here and water taxi was a no show at the dock lol, 3 different groups were standing around and waiting, phone calls went unanswered for an hour, byw it is 94 here today. Ended up getting an Uber, going to get some drinks then walk to Giacomo's for dinner.

Welcome to Boston now go frick yaself!

But really, sorry for the rough start to the trip and even more sorry for never answering your questions.

I’m paying attention to this thread so if anything comes up along the trip definitely ask.

Check out Parla right down Harrison from Giacomo’s for a cocktail after dinner if y’all still have the energy.

Giacomo's was awesome and put all the bad out of mind, Bova afterwards was equally great. Today we did the on/off trolley on the North End, the history in the places there really hits you more than any text book can teach you. Regina's for lunch was out of this world, best pizza I've ever had by a mile, 9.3 all day :). The heat today was like we were back home in Texas, 98 degrees by the time we headed north this evening. In Maine now, traveled up Hwy 1 and 1A, some beautiful sites along that stretch around York. Crowds were crazy this evening everywhere we went. Chilling around Portland for a few days, we will definitely plan another trip to Boston, didn't scratch the surface of what all we wanted to see.

Abita, we're planning a trip to Boston this August. I'm thinking we'll do the Freedom Trail, and a Red Sox game if there is a season and they are home. Maybe the JFK library and Acorn Street.

Are there any other places, 2 or 3, you think mostly first time visitors should see? We will be there 3 or 4 nights so 2 or 3 whole days to see the sites. I don't think we have time to see everything on your list. I was there once for work many years ago and did eat at Giacomo's; hope to get back there.

We'll probably stay in Back Bay, South End or Beacon Hill per your recommendations in a recent post.

Picked up some Yankees vs Red Sox tickets in Fenway, probably over paid but going to be worth it

There’s no such thing as not overpaying for Sox/Yankees tickets unless you know someone or are a season ticket holder. It will definitely be worth it.

Where are we sitting?

Whats the best way to get from Boston to Lexington/Concord from Boston without a car rental?

Also, I'm sure alot is personal preference (I love history my wife loves weird shite ) but if you had a half day to spend and have not visited either would you suggest Salem or Lexington Concord?

Gonna be up there for the Friday game as well. Coming up Wednesday for Braves game then checking out the city Thursday and back to Fenway Friday for the Red Sox/Yankees. Can’t wait.

There should be a commuter rail that will bring you out there. But to be honest I've never done it so I'm not 100% sure.

I don't know how many days you have in Boston, but personally I wouldn't recommend either. I also love history, but Boston has plenty of it. Salem is kind of a dud and Lexington/Concord is mostly just suburbs.
