Spirit Airlines Shut Down Overnight

Well, the time has finally come for the big yellow bus to fly into the sunset. Spirit airlines shut down operations overnight and has gone out of business.

Curious for everyone on here on your experiences flying Spirit, thoughts on the current situation, what you anticipate happening as a result of them shutting down?
Past- I've flown spirit twice- once from niagara falls airport direct to Myrtle Beach SC, second time was Ft Lauderdale to Kansas City. I had zero issues on either flight and got a great deal for exit row seats and the big seat up front. Flights were on time, flight attendants were good enough, would have continued to fly them.
Current situation- I'd be concerned if I flew somewhere yesterday or within the past week on Spirit. How do you get home? I'd expect the other airlines to drastically raise prices on airfare, but from what I've been reading, they're trying to make the fares reasonable for anyone that had a Spirit ticket. I'll believe that when I see it... If anyone needs help getting somewhere as a result of this, please let us know and we'll help you find some options
Future- I've been trying to think of where those passengers are going to go. Allegiant, Frontier, and Breeze are my best guesses. I'd expect some airports that had a lot of Spirit flights like Ft Lauderdale, Detroit, Atlanta, to end up with higher airfares. I'm not even sure if the big 3 airlines have enough capacity to take over some of those low yield leisure routes.

I never had any issues with spirit. It was good for what it was

It was good for what it was. Reasonable price for last second flights, and kept fares in line for other carriers on competing routes. Ive flown them 3 or 4 times, never an issue and flight attendants were as nice or nicer than other airlines. This is unfortunate.

Seeing Jetblue is adding 11 new routes from Ft Lauderdale, wasting no time.

I have flown them for the nonstop between New Orleans and Las Vegas. It was fine.

I had a very positive experience direct from FLL to BHM. Was looking forward to the direct BHM to Newark but alas, it was not meant to be.

Interesting. They are the next likely to go out of business.

Sucks, hopefully someone absorbs whatever is left and keeps this option open. Helps every flier out with a low cost option out there.

I’ve only flown spirit nonstop MSY - MCO. For a less than 2 hr flight and carrying only a backpack. It’s fine. Put a movie on your tablet and bring a water bottle that you fill up before you board.
Their planes were I believe all leased and fairly new so I expect them to be in service again pretty quickly.
Other airlines will grab their slots and gates. But they are out of business because their expenses exceeded revenues. I don’t see any others keeping their low prices.

There was talk of government bailout. Seriously? US government is over $39,000,000,000,000 in debt.

Took Spirit from Memphis to Vegas and it was exactly what you are imagining in your head
Just pay for the big seats upfront, put in the noise cancelers, and try not to catch a contact high.
