I read that Fedgov told the airlines to do that

Interesting. I think those airlines probably figured it's only 2 weeks worth of flights and it's only for spirit passengers, long term they'll be making a lot more money by raising airfares all across the country. Short term loss, long term gain.

Kind of shitty that their loyal customers can't get the same deal.

Tough one. They've gotta make money somehow. If anything imo this just shows how unprofitable spirit was with their fares. Can't continuously offer $45 fares places when your expenses are say $100/person/flight (making up a number here)

I loved Spirit when compared to American or United, JetBlue is worst.
Spirit was (for me) always on time and offered less time in airports. More normal travels also avoided the stupid hubs like Miami and Atlanta.

I have an American flight with a 1 hr connection before going international. Basic economy fare so I understand that I can't pick my seat, normally I don't care. They sat me in the very last row. $23 just to move up to a middle seat. I should be fine as long as the flight doesn't get delayed but these are simple things that airlines should have an algorithm for that would instantly increase customer satisfaction. Why take any risk in making me miss an international connection over something as simple as a middle seat a few rows up
