My wife gets 3 wks vacation/yr while I get about 7 wks total. I always tell her to call in sick so we can travel more but she always balk at that Idea. She keeps telling me that I should just fly and travel somewhere myself, but instead I just take a staycation and bum around the house b/c I have no idea where I should go.

I won't have the... I'm alone b/c on business mentality/ excuse" ...So any recommended destinations/ resort to travel alone and not feel like a loser or stick out like a sore thumb? Thx.

Asia. Especially Indonesia. So huge and time consuming.

A ski vacation would be pretty nice alone because you can always make friends on the slopes, maybe denver colorado or vermont/new hampshire? How about vegas to gamble and drink enough for a years worth in one weekend? A beach is always nice as well to just fall asleep and get away from it all

Do you have a favorite sports team? MLB? NFL? You could travel around and watch them in a few of the better venues while taking an extra day or two around the local area/city.

Are you an adventure person or a beach bum type of person? Where have you traveled and enjoyed or disliked?

More of a beach, exploration, sight seeing person. It may just be me, but I always feel awkward doing it all by myself. So looking for some places that is common for loners to vist.

Some good ideas here so far but any specific experience that someone traveled alone and would do so again? Thx

I've been to Berlin, Tokyo, Seoul and Beijing alone, seeing the great wall, tokyo tower, berlin wall, tiananmen square, forbidden city, etc. It's all about if you want to go international or find something domestic. The great thing about international is you'll meet people from all over the world that are in that city for a short amount of time trying to get the same experience you're looking for.

I do a lot of solo travel. It's great!!

I've been to Costa Rica alone. I highly recommend it. I hired a personal driver (cheaper than a rental car and WAY safer) and went to arenal, Guanacaste And Manuel Antonio. Missed out on on Limon. It was an amazing trip and my driver is also a guide and new all of the local places to go to.

I just got back from a Germany and Austria solo trip. Thats probably not for everyone, but I highly enjoyed it.

Alberta Canada is another recommendation. That's a long involved post though. If you're not interested in Alberta then I won't burden you with details.

This is a good option. I was there for work, but had a few days to explore (and each night). I enjoyed wandering alone. That said, I've never felt awkward doing those things alone on a trip.

Thailand, I did it while working in Singapore and it was the best vacation of my life, and for some of the reasons you can figure out yourself

Oregon has a lot of places you can go and just drive and look at the scenery. Beautiful beaches to walk on, but no need for a swimsuit. Mountains, too. Deserts and canyons, too.

If you like beer, taproom are a great place to hang out by yourself - they usually aren't loud and are a great place to strike up a conversation.

For a solo trip, Washington D.C. is a good trip if you are into history. All of the historical monuments and museums are free for the most part. They are time consuming and people visit them at their own pace, so it would be a great solo trip to just take it all in.

The Boston area is good for sightseeing including Nantucket & Martha's Vineyard and and you can head up to Arcadia NP in Maine.

I've done the Quebec City area by myself, pretty fun. It's efficient to be the only one you have to satisfy. Toronto, Montreal & Vancouver are interesting places as well and walkable.

I second DC, the Smithsonian and all the other museums are cool as well as the historic sites around "our nation's capitol".

I've also done Civil War battlefields by myself, that was good.
