Looking to rent a vehicle this summer from Las Vegas and then heading out to Grand Canyon area. My only experience was when my buddy tried to rent for a ski trip and the dude kept changing cars on us and then stopped replying all together. My buddy got his money back but it leaves me to question this since I’ve never really used it. I’m worried about liability if something happens, someone not showing up and is being without a car. TIA

I've used it 5 times now and really like it. Never any problem with owner changing the car, been the exact one advertised every time.

Car is usually waiting in short term parking with the key inside so no dealing with the lines or BS at the rental car place.

I’ve used it 10+ times and they were all good experiences. I have one reserved in Vegas in a couple weeks

Did the exact same thing you’re planning. Rented a Turo from Las Vegas for trip to Grand Canyon. Car was left in the hotel garage, returned to the same place. Zero issues.

Interested in Turo as well. Is car insurance pretty much the same policy as renting from a commercial rental car company?

What's the benefit to Turo in Vegas? You can get an older jeep to 4x4 or something?

As long as you know theres a risk to renting something you are driving that far and if there's an issue you are likely SOL and will have to look elsewhere, I wouldn't sweat it. WIth a rental car company if you break down or have an issue you are okay, if you break down on Turo 2.5 hours from the owner its likely getting towed somewhere and you are looking for another option on your own.

Are rental car companies out of vegas limited?

I hate dealing with rental companies. Turo is MUCH cheaper and I can pick the exact car I want rather than thinking I’m getting a Tahoe only to show up and then tell me it’s a Kia sole or some other bullshite.

And I am leaning towards a jeep. Taking the doors off on a nice day is a strong pro. Jeep rentals out of vegas from a specific jeep place is very expensive

I've used TURO twice now.

First time was a pick up at the denver airport in December of 2022. The pickup, etc was pretty easy, but the Jeep i rented needed tires terribly and a windshield. This slick tires didn't work great in the ice and snow, but we didn't wreck.

I rented a Forerunner last October. Picked up at the Seattle airport. Couldn't not have gone any smoother.

Definitely better than a rental car agency imo.

That's debatable.

Used Turo 4 times in the last 4 years: Denver, Chicago, Albuquerque and NYC. Have one lined up for Hawaii in April.

Pretty easy, straightforward every time. No real issues. You can pay a little more for a nicer, newer car, or save a little money for an older, less nice car; your call.

Almost always cheaper than regular car rentals (especially was in Denver).

ALWAYS get one from the 5 star top rated owners. Be polite and amiable, and get a good review as a renter.

Check the mileage limitation, some are unlimited, some have limits.

In regards to insurance, I checked with my agent and he said Turo was covered, just as it would be with a Hertz or Avis.

I use Turo most of the time, but its a must for Denver. Most of the time the owner of the vehicle has met me in the departures lane of the airport and did a quick 30 second hand off. This saves about an hour of having to take the shuttle to the offsite rental car place. Same for the way back. Even if it was more expensive I would still use it in Denver.

Last time I rented a car at the Denver airport, the rental process took longer that the flight from Houston. Lines for shuttle, shuttle ride, lines at rental desk, waiting for them to clean car….

Used it 4 times: Denver, L.A. and twice in Hawaii. Overall a great experience. Cheaper and quicker than a car rental place. The risk is that if there is something wrong with the car you are stuck. There is not another car next to it you can take, like with a Alamo. I try to avoid this by choosing 5 star owners, reading the reviews and choosing newer vehicles. But even so, in Hawaii the car badly needed new tires, to the extent that it felt unsafe. I had little choice but to drive it anyway and turned out OK. I just noted the issue in my review.

Timely thread...

Getting a vehicle for The Masters and wondering how well this works. Looks solid based on all posts here!
