I know this gets brought up all the time so I’ve gotten a few ideas already (St. Charles, etc..), but looking for more ideas. Taking the wife on New Years to Nola for a little getaway and looking for stay recommendations and dining outside of the quarter (trashy I know). We’re not vaxxed so we plan on getting negative tests so we can get in places. Anybody tips or ideas along these lines? We like lights, scenery, and breweries

Urban South brewery is near downtown and they might have something going on. Would be fun if the weather is nice. Peche is kinda in the same area and is outstanding especially if you like seafood. A cool place to stay close to both is the old #77 hotel. Great restaurant in the same building too

if you have wheels and it’s a nice day to day drink bayou beer garden is fun and the food is decent to good

I’ve been to a dozen bars and restaurants in the past month and haven’t been asked to show my papers.

You don’t want recommendations for dining in the Quarter?

The vax stuff is really overblown. Just take a picture of someone’s vax card. Most places aren’t even asking

Yep, I've found the same--I don't know that I'd say most though. I went to the Saenger last week for the Allman Family Revival and even thought the pre-concert email stressed city requirements, no one was asking to see cards or LA Wallet proof of vaccine. That same day the breakfast restaurant I went to did require it.

I'd still get the negative test if I were you--you go to enough places and many will still require it.

Search google for a fake card, print out and fill out. Take a pic of it with your phone. Much more convenient than going get a negative test.

It's more of the principle of the matter. Any place asking you to show anything deserves to go out of business

Huh? Certainly not trashy outside the quarter, arguably much niceer. Other than the famous four (Arnauds, Galatoire, Brennan's, Antoine's) the best dining is outside the quarter for sure.

Don’t stay in the quarter if you can help it. Warehouse district has plenty of hotels. Hyatt and Hyatt House usually have good prices and are easy for parking. Although hotel prices will be high that weekend regardless.

Urban South is probably the best brewery, but they will ask to see your vac card or negative test. NOLA is down the road and pretty good too.

Frenchman is usually good for NYE parties. Brieux Carré is right off Frenchman as well. They will ask to see vax/negative test too. I think they drop a gumbo pot at Jax Brewery on NYE, but it will be crowded.

Plenty of great places to eat. August, Pelican Club, Revolution, Saba/Shaya, etc.

Have fun!

You should get vaccinated or stay home.

Head to Bearcat Cafe for a breakfast or brunch one day. The one on Jena is the original. Get there before 10 or be prepared to wait.

Port Orleans has a cool brewery space with a lot of food.

You could see about buying tickets for Celebration in the Oaks if you like lights.

Also, you could watch the sunset on the Fly (Uptown behind the zoo) and then get a dinner at Clancy's right next door.

A really cool outdoor bar is called Tchoup Yard. It is a few block down from Urban South Brewery and has heaters outside if its a cold day / night. They have a website you can check out. Another cool bar is in Mid city called Wrong Iron. Enjoy

Went this past weekend. Everywhere we went made us show card but we held it up and they didn’t look at any details on the cards so they don’t seem to care, just following protocol

Sylvain, GW Fin's, R'evolution, Bayona, Irene's, Italian Barrel, Mr. B's. Plenty of great food in the quarter.

I sent a friend a screenshot of my LA Wallet vaccination. He used it everywhere in NOLA with no problem. The few places they "checked" were just going through the motions.
