Be careful with poker. Been tons of stories about how teams are at the tables and play the unsuspecting others.

It's gotten laughable expensive there with fees for nothing.

Vegas is fine but it is down by "vegas standards". They really are nickel and diming everyone so this needs to happen. They went to far to get rid of the Spirit airlines crowd.

Probably over supply with the ridiculous hotels. Hardcore Vegas people go for gambling and shows. They don’t need a Venice canal in the lobby.

That's been there for almost 30 years. Not like it's a new development in the new social media Vegas.

I go to vegas alot and the pricing has just become a little too much. it would cost them like $2 to throw us a case of water in the room upon arrival... but they cant even do that. Its like they have designed vegas to extract every possible nickel from you and they dont even try and give you a little lube. oh you want water? 8$ ....have a headache from drinking and not enough water because you dont want to overpay for water... 4 pack of aspirin $12. and lets not even get started on the price of drinks shots and food. I dont think its possible to eat for less than $30 on the strip.

but what I will say is the strip is ran really well. I usually book up alot of shite on a trip and to jump from one casino to the next for shows even on a time crunch it always works out. Its a fine tuned machine.

Nah, the family-friendly Vegas phase has been over for at least a decade now.

This exactly….

The point of Vegas was cheap food/drinks, with gambling and entertainment.. you could afford to go bc that was cheap, and have money for gambling.

Now it’s $50 for a couple to get a burger and fries for lunch…

$50 for lunch for 2 people at a sit down place? Where? Usually it’s at least $100 minimum now. Most likely more

Vegas used to be cheap back in the day because all the casinos wanted to get your money at the tables, slots, etc. Then they got greedy and decided to start fricking you over on all facets of your stay.

Yea went 20 years ago, then again about 10. Big difference even then…

I did find a little casino across from TI with $3 craps…. Royals maybe? Just remember it had a White Castle in it…

It was. It attracted real gamblers. Not just people who throw money in a slot machine. The real attraction was blackjack, craps, roulette, and poker. You had to learn to play those games at least a bit. You could learn them and maybe not lose as much as fast, spend a little more time giving them your money. Play blackjack at a fun table where everyone is talking, etc. As the flashy video slots came out, less and less learned to play the games or even want to bother trying. Casinos have realized they make much more on the slots and keep expanding that while staffing less and less tables.

You lose so fast at slots that a lot of people just play a little and spend their money on other things. Little by little Vegas is leaving the old gambling model and isn't the place it was 20 years ago.

It was in the middle of that change when I moved from there in the 90s. You can go further back when the corporations and Hughes moved in. With the mafia they didn't mind taking a loss on food and beverage/hotel as long as they made money on the floor to skim. You had great customer service and felt like you could get bang for you buck. Now they have to make money everywhere so the comps suck and they squeeze everything out of you they can. They got through covid on the low income crowd and now they want to shed that "necessary evil" to get back to a different model. Politics very much comes into play behind the scenes. Check out the last time the NBA all star game was played there. You would be surprised to see how long it has been for a place like Vegas to not have hosted it. While Vegas wants a team that weekend was choas and the Mayor even came out to say so. You struggled to find Hennessy served on the strip for a time after that

100% Vegas was more fun when the mob ran it! It's so different now. My dad started going in the 80s and his last trip was around 2017 or so and he said he won't be back. They nickel and dime you to death now. Plus, you can't even find a good coffee shop to get steak and eggs at 2 am!

Yeah I think have priced themselves out of the market but they will never admit that. Last time I went if you wanted to get 3:2 odds on blackjack you had be at a $100 table.

From a business standpoint I think they wanted to get away from the cheap retiree destination and move to the hip young crowd with night clubs, bars, concerts, pool bars, etc. I know about as many people going there for something other than gambling (and not work) as I do to gamble.

But yeah it’s not nor will ever be my thing to just get hammered on prices.

The thing is I get paying high prices in San Fran and New York and a Caribbean beach, it’s about location and demand. But in Vegas land is cheap and logistics to get supplies is super easy. The only reason for the expense is massive profits. They are in a business to make money so I don’t blame them, but it’s just not for me.
