Las Vegas tourism decline

Is it the proliferation of gambling in the country ? Vegas Prices too high which is what article suggests ? National economy or combination of things which is most likely

I have a weeklong work conference every year
We just had it in June and it’s amazing how expensive it’s gotten
The freaking resort charged $25 per day if you wanted to use the gym. They are nickel and diming you for everything.
Bottle of water was $8, Red Bull was $12

Probably over supply with the ridiculous hotels. Hardcore Vegas people go for gambling and shows. They don’t need a Venice canal in the lobby.

20-30 years ago you could walk the strip and duck into small private casinos and bars for stupid cheap drinks and table games with rock bottom minimum bets. Now the whole strip is mega resorts that are so far off the strip that walking isn't even an option and minimum bets make gambling off limits for anyone but high rollers. Vegas has left behind the reputation for degenerate alcoholic gamblers and become a vacation destination for families and life event parties, with gambling as a side show for posting on social media.

$25 -$50 minimum blackjack in just about every casino doesn't help the cause. Vegas is going to price itself out of business.

I had an extended layover in Vegas back in February for a couple nights. I hadn't been in probably 15 years and I know things are expensive in general now but it was disgusting how expensive everything was. I can't imagine what a family would spend even on just a weekend trip to Vegas

It's been about 7 years for me since I've been to Vegas, but I wasn't impressed

Its a number of things, but the biggest is the cost these days. Theres a guy on IG named Pauly C who's out there and gives a lot of insider info and insight into things. Like Caeser's being bought or the construction of Resorts World with international investors completely screwing the pooch. Caesers stock has gone from 127 in 2021 to 30 bucks currently.
IMO, the boom just as Covid was hitting and then the bottoming of prices during covid, inviting the total trash in, was the start of the decline. The common customers were run off and then these new/purchased casinos changed operating models and focused on high rollers, basically blocking any chance of those bread and butter customers coming back.

Same here. Hoover Dam is cool, drove out to Area 51 to not seen anything except the Area 51 Brothel. I didn’t go in. But I do want to go to the Sphere. That will be a fly in, see the show and fly out.

We went to Vegas back in May for a friend birthday party, and I was blown away how expensive things have gotten. And I’m just not talking about the restaurants, yes those are expensive but they always have band so I wasn’t really surprised by that, but even the poolside Café a basket of fries was $18, a 12 ounce can of Coca-Cola was eight dollars, Daytime blackjack table was $25 per hand
the odd thing was there was probably seven or eight tables with only a dealer standing there alone, staring off into space
I would imagine that is also a natural deterrent

When I was there in 2009, I had a great buffet on the Strip for $18 (which is more money than $18 now, but still not insane).

Again in 2009, most places were $5, and you could still go to the old Sahara and play $1 blackjack.
The crazy thing to me when I went back in 2022 was that you could almost get high from the secondhand weed smoking all up and down the Strip. In crowded areas, it was just overwhelming.

I have been to Vegas about 20 times, the last two times being in 2021 (after LSU-UCLA in Pasadena) and 2024 (for LSU-USC).
The first time I went to Vegas was January 1980. I flew there the same night as Bo Rein's ill-fated flight. We stayed at Caesar's Palace which was the biggest and flashiest place in town. Back then the most awesome sight on the strip was walking past the illuminated fountains in front of Caesar's and into the main casino which had a black domed ceiling with glittering gold leaf decorations. It was an impressive sight.
I can still identify that spot, which now has a white domed ceiling, but now it is just a little cubby hole in the gigantic complex.
I haven't noticed the drop off in crowds, but the last two times I went it was Labor Day weekend. And of course, last year the LSU fans were there in droves.

What’s interesting is that while tourism has been declining more and more people are moving there to live permanently. The suburbs are exponentially growing and they keep adding professional sports franchises.

All generations do not have taste for the amount of money it now costs to go go vegas and have a good time. I guarantee if the prices came down and some fees disappeared you quickly see all generations show back up.

I go to Vegas for two reasons
1. Hotels are dirt cheap compared to other places, I actually like Excalibur and I can get rooms for just the resort fee price of like 50 bucks a night, bigger gamblers get comped at all the casinos, I might play 200 bucks on the machines my entire trip, flights on allegiant are cheap and direct too
2. It’s still the best spot for poker in the entire world
If I didn’t play poker, I’d really have no reason to go back.

I have been twice this year and haven’t seen a decline. Packed both times. Going again in late September and hotels are sky high.
