The area downtown by the river and waterfalls is fun to visit. Lots of restaurants and other stuff there too.

Fantastic city. Best hotel is the Grand Bohemian Lodge.
Hall's Chophouse is a great scene. Soby's for good southern good.
There are a few rooftop bars that I really like - UP on the Roof and Ink n Ivy.

Congrats. I have read about it, and it sounds like a nice place.

We are going to visit for a few days later this year, semi-scouting it as a post-retirement home.

Shoeless Joe’s Jackson’s hometown - he is a big deal there.
That whole area of the country is a great…outdoor activities, arts, you name it !
Enjoy…you may want to extend your stay !

Also Duke's Mayonnaise hometown. We biked the Swamp Rabbit
Trail that goes from downtown all the way to Furman's campus. lots of options to eat/drink on this journey. Straight up beautiful.

Greenville is one of the most underrated cities out there. Live downtown if you can. Lots of good restaurants and bars. Plenty of outdoor activities in the area.

Wife (no pics) interviewed for a job based in Greenville SC. We live in Charlotte NC. She assumed the COL would be cheaper in a smaller town.

Nope. It's not cheap to live there by any means. Beautiful area and great location. 2 hrs from CLT/ATL. 1 hr from Mtns. 4 hrs to SC beaches.

I've really enjoyed my time there and tried to get my wife to move there. No dice, too far from family.

Try the Flock Shop hot chicken in Spartanburg.

I have lived in Greenville since 2014. It did used to be pretty cheap to live here, and then COVID hit. The last time we paid rent was late in 2019-$995 per month for a 2 bedroom apartment about 6 miles out of downtown. That same apartment is currently going for $1600. It’s still not bad, but I think everyone thinks of Greenville as cheap which just isn’t the case anymore. Downtown you are probably looking at $2500-3000 a month for a 2 bed.

I used to work for GE and we had a plant there. Visited frequently, and it was awesome. The prime rib at smoke on the water is delicious. Lot's of stuff to do.

I always stayed at the Hilton Greenville.

That's just insane. I'm in Columbia (which is admittedly, no Greenville), but offers a decent place to raise a family; but I just can't get over the COL difference.

you wont have issue doing things on weekends. Really safe to live anywhere besides white horse rd area. If you do downtown, Travelers Rest, Greer, Five Forks you will be fine with anything
Ive lived here since 09. Shoot me a note if you have questions around a certain area

Where is your job going to be? You really can’t go wrong except avoid Whitehorse rd area as another poster mention3d. Been here 5 years and it’s the best place I’ve lived. Food and drink scene is amazing, downtown is awesome. I live just past Furman University north of town. Secret is out. It’s expensive. We finished building right when Covid hit. Thank God. Enjoy your time here. You will not want to leave.

I am glad to hear that Greenville S.C. is such a nice place to visit. I have never been there but I have a grandfather from many generations up who fought under George Washington in the Revolutionary War who is buried in a church cemetery there. Maybe I will go visit him.

How are the schools there? I know it doesn’t take much to surpass LA public schools, but how would you rate them in the Greenville/Greer/TR/Simpsonville area? We are looking to make a move and mine are in private school in Baton Rouge currently.

all in all the schools are really good. private schools here are expensive. $12k-$24K/yr depending on school and age.
most of greenville is school of choice so you can apply to go to a public school you aren't "zoned" for.
