Go to Garrison Brothers.really fun whiskey tour. There are so many wineries. My recommendation is to just buy a bottle and sit outside and drink vs the tasting. Pedernales brewing was fun. Its been years since I've been, but definitely a great trip.

Most stuff closes down pretty early so keep that in mind.

Tried a couple of area wineries. Snobbiest assholes ever.

Stick to Hill Country bars, bbq and Tex-Mex.

We stay right outside Fredericksburg all the time, headed there next week. And honestly, we rarely go into Fredericksburg. Its over run with tourists and really nothing like it was 30 years ago. If you are a big wine-o then you'll enjoy the wineries but I am not a big wine drinker. We usually go to High's Cafe in comfort for good food, the crab cake is awesome. They have a nice outdoor area under trees which is nice to hang out in and have a few drinks and its a really chill scene compared to Fredericksburg. Across the street is Comfort pizza which is really good but you have to order a day ahead of time as they only make a certain amount of dough per day. My favorite breweries are Rough Diamond in Spring Branch near Blanco and Cibolo Creek Brewing in Boerne which also has really good farm to table food.

I don’t know about 30 years ago, but it’s become an Instagram hotspot. A lot of Instagram influencers and bachelorette parties. Nothing wrong with this at all, but it feels more commercialized than it did even 5-7 years ago.

Comfort is probably better than 30 years ago as is kerrville. Some places change for the better. I guess what I should have said is Fredericksburg has gotten oversaturated with tourists and places that cater to them. So much so that the city has lost its historical identity. I'm sure it's good for the local economy though.

why would people drive hours to come drink wine in fredericksburg when neither the wine nor the grapes are from the area?

its nothing but a tourist scam. the grape vines on their properties are only for show

It’s definitely overrun with tourism but is an enjoyable trip. Ron Yates was one we enjoyed. Grape creek is one of the mega vineyards and not that good imo.

Who cares where the grapes are from?
Do you only eat at steak houses that feed and slaughter their animals out back?

It’s people watching paradise. We typically stay around the area and not in FBurg. Wimberley, Bandera, Kerrville. Little more laid back and less commercialized but you can still hit the wineries and things around FBurg.

From my experiences it’s more like where people of Wal Mart go for their “nice” vacations.

Anybody who is even remotely serious about wine?

It would be like going to a brewery and getting a beer from somewhere else. You might as well go to any bar besides that brewery.
