Not that I need it as I have too many damn stays with Marriott already, but doesn't Amex Platinum offer Marriott Gold already, and not just for 3 months?

Don't know if it is truly new or not, but the preferred card update includes a $120 statement credit every 4 years for pre-check/global entry renewals made on the card.

This is also offered on several of the other travel cards.

Preferred is also offering 100,000 initial bonus even if you have other cards with Chase. Annual Fee is $100. It also seem to have better points accumulation for common expenses compared to similar cards.

That is actually for the Preferred. Still a good offer for a $100 mid level card (only other issuer who offers so many points, outside of the very rare CapitalOne bonus increase, is AmEx and they dont get there until you get to the $325 Gold) but the Hyatt devaluation on the Preferred definitely bites a bit

Room upgrades are laughable at this point. I'm Lifetime Titanium with marriott and rarely if ever are their upgrades available.

Well, when you travel for work everyone else is. These benefits are more valuable to the leisure traveler rather than the business traveler

Definitely nice sign that Chase is adding perks throughout the year. I was excited about this at first but I am not a Marriott loyalist and then quickly saw the "meh" behind the deal.

Maybe Chase will take the negative feedback and introduce some new more valuable perks for Reserve owners over the next year.

Everyone has these cards now. It costs more and the perks are diluted. I got tired of paying more and not being able to get into an airport lounge anymore

Marriott treats everyone like shite.

Hyatt treats elites well but that's going to keep fading I imagine. Plus less options than Marriott from city to city.

I've never had a single issue with Marriott and when something goes wrong, am compensate handsomely.

Of course, I'm Titanium with them, so that may make a difference. But even when I was gold, all was good.

I'm talking about elite benefits responding to the previous poster. From my reading this is extremely widespread. Marriott also doesn't enforce its elite benefits well on its operators.

In any event, this isn't very far from airlines monetizing forward cabins and having upgrades at historic lows, so it isn't particularly unique to Marriott.

Ah, my bad...

Yeah, I only get a room upgrade once in a blue moon, but I'm not that worried about it. In fact, there have been a number of times I've declined the upgrade bc I don't like massive rooms when traveling for work. Just feels awkward. I just book exactly what I want and call it a day.

I hear you on that. Getting the huge room on a work trip in Dallas on a Wednesday feels unnecessary.

Weird take, but I hate the multi room hotels. Again, feels weird to me to have a bedroom, living, etc... This isn't my damn house, its a hotel room

I don't disagree, but for the hotels its essentially a free or at least extremely low cost benefit for them to give to you. I agree its essentially useless for most work travel, but wives and friends with benefits do arrive or travel so it can be nice on occasion.

The issue these 3rd party cards are having and I don't see this changing anytime soon, is the hotels and airlines have realized they are best off giving their major perks to their major users. Hotels are offering 10-20x points for direct bookings, that's an impossible rate for Chase and Amex to compete against.

Idk if Case and AmEx are super concerned about that since they are usually the issuers to those cards

They would definitely prefer that people booked through their travel portals but they will happily live off the merchant and interest fees

Smaller/newer fintech players like Bilt are the ones being squeezed there imo

That's the purpose of the thread we are in though. That's why I suggested that. They want to be in the travel game because business travel is where a ton of money is spent.
