Go Broken Bow Savages!!!!

We just got back from the area. We had a blast!! There’s a couple breweries (when I say a couple, I mean literally 2), we rented a pontoon, did some hiking, and fishing.

Hochatown isn’t much now but it seems like in 20 years, the place will be like Gatlinburg. A tourist destination that sprang up from nowhere

Those cabins are mostly luxurious places. It's a peaceful place if you just want to boat ride, hike trails, sit by a fire and enjoy your group of people. If you expect more then go to Branson because there is nothing else to do. There is some golf but the course is not in great shape.

Dads from near there (idabel). Love beavers bend. There’s a little museum or something there that has a few pictures of some of my late family on that side.

I went in February. It was cold and rainy.

From the Baton Rouge area, it's only a 6-hour drive. Beautiful country, mostly underdeveloped, which is great, but it looks like it could be changing to rival a Gatlinburg type of area.

The house (cabin) that we stayed in was valued at over $1 million dollars, and while it presented incredibly well on VRBO, the quality of the work and finishes were no better than a $250K home in the BR area.

But no one is there for the house (cabin), as there is plenty to do with fishing in the streams, ATV riding, s'mores by the outside fireplace, hot tub, hunting, kayaking, etc.

We said the same thing at our cabin. It was recently purchased for around 2 million. A friend of mine, who went with us, is a general contractor and started pointing out the shitty work and craftsmanship. For example, the stair post and railings were all nailed down with the nail heads showing. According to my friend, these should be screwed down with the screws not visible. That was just one example and once we saw it, we couldn’t unsee it

It’s a hidden gem if you ask me. Nice quiet area but people are starting to find out about it. Lots of flies.

Hasn’t been a hidden gem in 5-10 years. Used to take day trips all the time to go fly fish. There would be times I’d see maybe 3 other fishermen the whole day and it was fantastic.

Now every 10 feet of the river are some fat arses from Texas with selfie sticks and yappy dogs and kids. Absolute nightmare for those wanting to escape people. It reminds me of that insurance commercial where some guy finds a super peaceful spot and 5 min later there’s a line of people behind him waiting for his spot.

Yes I’m a grouchy arse. Get off my lawn.

Not really. It’s basically the new destin /gulf shores. Idk if it was social media or what but it seems like the entire world just found out about this place 3-4 years ago.

SE Oklahoma is one of those areas that you don't have to worry about being murdered, because they trap you and just keep you.

It’s crazy how that area has blown up over the last 25 years. We used to go quite a bit when I was a kid in the early 80s. It was rural backwoods as shite. Bout as far off the grid as you could get in Oklahoma.
Now it’s overrun with Airbnb’s and Texas license plates.

Yeah, the secret definitely got out and I don’t see the appeal anymore

Traffic is bad and it’s drawn the prices up. almost all of our friends in Dallas that used to go every year now rarely go.

We decided to check out Hot Springs for the first time last year instead and liked it much better and prettier. Way more to do and the lake was awesome.

We stayed in a nice cabin in Hochatown. If you don't like the outdoors, hiking, fishing, etc..., there is little to do. The traffic is bad from Broken Bow to Hochatown so try and go and leave on a weekday. There really is only one grocery store and the smallest Wal-Mart I've ever seen. Go in November when the foliage is changing and the weather is cool. The hiking is best at that time. Family had great time.

2 things I remember from my one day in Broken Bow:

1) Noodling
2) 3 generations of women drinking together at the bar.
