Anyone ever been to Chile in the summer? The videos I have seen lately make it look pretty cool. That's a long flight though...

I plan on doing a full Alps tour one year.... and a South American tour during the summer.
My wife might divorce me, but I'd love to get 200 days of skiing in a year!

This describes my RMU 106s. So much fun. They can handle anything I ask of them but they will wear me out much earlier in the day on hardpack.
As far as the referenced list, it’s a good list for a demo day. Enforcer and Rustler are the hard chargers, Bent for the lively side, and the QST for jack of all trades. All very popular options.

For those that fly with skis, boots, gear, clothes etc., what is your set up? Don’t really want to take a chance of ski boots gettin lost a couple of day if checked.

Big ski bag, put skis, poles, helmet, and boots in there along with ski clothes. Keep it under 50 lbs, take carryon with ski pants, one change of ski clothes, goggles, etc. Or you can get a carryon boot bag for your personal item that way you're only checking your skis

Steamboat is great. It still has that western vibe and small town charm. It doesn’t feel super rich like other Colorado ski resort towns.
Lots of lodging options for SISO, walking, or shuttling... and all of them are easy and reasonable.
Pretty great mountain for beginner and intermediates (I haven't been back since the expansion).
It has climbed in relative cost versus other options in recent years.
(I consistently price check every couple of years as a hobby/ destination selection tool.)
But, it is still a pretty good value and ranks pretty high on overall experience.

You don’t have to go to Chile. In a good snow year the Palmer lift at Timberline runs until Labor Day.

Surely you are not comparing the vast, beautiful, fresh powder of Chile to one lift line of dirty summer slush in Oregon (in the heat). Not saying that wouldn't be fun for a day, but come on

Not at all. Just thought if the guy wanted to get 200 days in a season, Palmer would be closer than South America.
And leave it to a snowboarder to talk trash about that sweet spring and summer slush. Hop on a pair of skis this spring and have some fun!

Definitely wasn't talking trash about slush. I love it! Listen to Surfin' USA on repeat and cruise

I have a Diamant backpack for my boots that fits under most seats, all other ski stuff goes into my ski bag.

I like a ski resort where I can walk from base to town. Breck, Vail, Telluride, PC, Etc. That cant be done in steamboat.
If you're a green/blue groomer and enjoy getting stuck on backsides with only one way crowded lifts out they its probably your jam.

Vail - Huge resort, tons of great terrain. You could spend a day in each area and maybe not see it all. The parking there is much easier, at least the last time I went (5ish years ago). Right off the interstate if y'all are driving and don't feel like doing mountain roads. Also if you get epic passes, you can go to Beaver Creek, which is another great mountain not too far away.
It's gonna be more vacation/touristy feeling over WP.
Winter Park - I've only been there one time lately. The day I was there it was the biggest crowds I've ever seen on a mountain. 45+ minute waits for lifts. Not sure if that's standard on the weekend or I just got lucky, but it sucked. The runs were empty because everyone was standing in line, so actual riding time was good. Crowds did start thinning out around 1, so the rest of the day was fun.
Definitely a more local feeling mountain, if that's your thing. I didn't stay in town, so I can't really speak to what they have there, but it seems nice.
I know Vail gets a lot of hate for their business model (and rightfully so), but it is one of my favorite mountains to ride.

Nice! Booked our flight to steamboat this morning. Have a vail and steamboat trip on the books this year!
